Sorry for your loss. I can't imagine how you're feeling right now.

But your point holds true, we do not and will not have a base to sustain ourselves. Our last great chance to win and get the ball rolling was '12-'13 when we had Gilbert. We could have left a mark on the conference, got some new fans & momentum, and keep current fans happy.

None of that happened and here we are.

Our biggest problem now is no fans. My dad was one of the biggest diehard SMU fans and he passed away 2 weeks ago. I’m sure everyone has lost people on their row since the average SMU fan is 60+ now. Aren’t our big donors just a couple old guys? Will their kids continue to donate? If we don’t start winning big soon, we will average 5k.

I've stopped blaming Pye, the Death Penalty, Dale Hansen's investigation, or any other [deleted] that happened in the 80's, That was generations ago. All that's left is a school that it trying really hard to hold onto the past but does not have the resources, alumni base, or the commitment to compete with the modern state of college football.

SMU absolutely has the resources and ability to compete. If it can't, how does TCU seem to do it? While SMU officials are worried about how not to show large chunks of empty seats at Ford Stadium on TV, the Ft. Worth folks are beginning their second stadium expansion this decade.

Meanwhile, SMU needs broader local support and this has been lacking.

Can't keep throwing garbage on the field tho...

I went to Ford Stadium this morning and it was open enough to walk into the stands. I saw a pair of game day cleats and several gloves left in the stands. Unless that is common, it would seem like they had a frustrating late-night meeting

Games like yesterday clearly illustrate why we have major attendance problems. Who wants to invest their time and money supporting this kind of product. As much as we love our school, we have our limits. You cannot ask and expect continued support for poor performance on the field (30 + years now of poor results). No one expects undefeated seasons. However, we are not happy being embarrassed on a weekly basis. How many of you honestly believe that we will EVER be good again?
Enough of the excuses that we can't compete with the big boys. TCU is proof that a successful football program is possible for smaller, private schools. SMU is surround by vast amounts of money everywhere. We are located in one of the wealthiest, fastest growing areas of the country. Our endowment and alumni have always been wealthy and well connected. We pride ourselves in excellence in all that we do. And yet, we accept readily below standard performance on the field.
The time is now to decide what we want SMU to be in 10-20 years. Good enough is not good enough any longer.

TCU had the administration and big time backers with clout to make the P5 move and the same to ensure successful sports programs. TCU had foresight. SMU HAS PROVEN that it does not.

Ding ding ding! We have a winner. Led by Richard (wont let me put in his nickname) Lowe, tcu made a conscientious decision at what was described to me as a fiery, high emotion, special session of their “board” after they found out they had been snubbed again by a major conference. We have, to my knowledge, never had anything of that remotely resembles that. Except maybe a hands folded meeting of our trustees to debate the merits of several different tea brands to serve during Meadows School stage presentations. Heard it got quite heated.

No excuses. Very disappointing and depressing. I demand more and expect waaay more.

But I will support and cheer on my alma mater. 10-0 or 0-10 doesn't matter.

Pony up.

Sounds like Orsini. For all that dude's shortcomings, he wanted to win badly. That got him fired.

Are "The Stables" in the stands for the student section done yet?

Explain to me why we are bashing Turner and not judging the Big Cigars that really hire, fund and handle our Football and Basketball Coaches. I think SMU is now TCU in the 1970s and 1980s hiring F.A. Dry., Billy (No) Toe-hill and Jim Shofner. I've agreed with exactly 1 maybe 2 football coaching hires out of the last 7. Most of these guys had the personality of F.A. Dry, Billy No-Toe and Shofner. Big Cigars went shopping in the left over discount bin in hiring a good ole West Texas boy in Sonny Dykes in a era where top P5 assistants are now getting in the 1.8-2.5 Million range. So if we want to compare SMU to TCU that's the biggest difference. TCU was willing to pay BCS money when they were a G5 to retain Coaching talent. SMU hired a guy with a contract where the school that fired him is paying his salary

I hated the Sonny hire. But since he was hired he’s acted like he’s learned from every single [deleted] one of his failures. Hand over playcalling. Hire experienced OC. Accept modification to his offensive philosophy. Bring in JUCOs and grad transfers. Hire an actual good defensive coordinator. Let the coaches coach.

If he fails miserably fine. But [deleted] Stallion for his ignorant [deleted] half cocked opinions.

I see the old "market rate" argument has resurfaced.

Arizona should've similarly not pursued Sumlin since he too was from the "bargain bin."

I've got zero problem holding accountable for W's and L's and preparedness
when the time comes to evaluate. To be sure, those are a few of the criteria in evaluating performance. Making a savvy business move and leveraging the previous employer's subsidies, however, is not.

That's because we do not undestand Turner's role. My ex-husband, a former CEO of a fortune 500 company, said the same thing when I questioned why he and his secretary spent all afternoon in a hotel room 4 times a month. I just didn't understand hiis role in the company and the demands of his job. Silly me.
