The quality of our applicants is obviously great - but we sure do need to increase the number of applicants so we can get our acceptance rate down. Over 50% is inexcusable.

I think a more useful metric would be to get: % of Students graduated with jobs over $50k in less than year, 1-2 years, 3-5 years, and so on. At the end of the day, it's about getting a career going after college. One could exclude data for students who seek a graduate degree after graduating.

This may have what you're looking for...
The median family income of a student from Southern Methodist is $198,900, and 67% come from the top 20 percent. About 1.8% of students at Southern Methodist came from a poor family but became a rich adult.
A new study, based on millions of anonymous tax records, shows that some colleges are even more economically segregated than previously understood, while others are associated with income mobility.
Below, estimates of how Southern Methodist compares with its peer schools in economic diversity and student outcomes.
6th out of 71 Highly selective private colleges in terms of Median parent income
3rd out of 71 Highly selective private colleges in terms of Share of students from top one percent (Families who made about $630,000 or more per year)
19th out of 71 Highly selective private colleges in terms of Share of students from top fifth (Families who made about $110,000 or more per year)
44th out of 71 Highly selective private colleges in terms of Share of students from bottom fifth (Families who made about $20,000 or less per year)
34th out of 71 Highly selective private colleges in terms of Chance a poor student has to become a rich adult (The share of children who were from the bottom fifth of incomes as students and moved to the top fifth as adults)
26th out of 71 Highly selective private colleges in terms of Median student income at age 34 (Incomes continue to grow, but the relative ranks remain roughly stable after this age)
31st out of 71 Highly selective private colleges in terms of Overall mobility index (This measure reflects both access and outcomes, representing the likelihood that a student at Southern Methodist moved up two or more income quintiles)
38th out of 71 Highly selective private colleges in terms of Married in 2014\

Re: SMU updates Strategic Plan Progress Report for 2017-2018
Surprising that the median family income of an SMU student is only 198K. Would've guessed it to be higher.
Certainly not an attempt at bragging but my wife and I are in our early 30's and make substantially more than that. Given the cost of an SMU education I would think the median would've been upwards of 250K.

Do you think the number of applications drops much during a recession?
Model T, you can already afford to send kids to SMU!

Reduce that ridiculously high tuition rate and applications will double or triple. It is Criminal what these colleges are getting away with re /tuition and board.
BRING BACK THE GLORY DAYS OF SMU FOOTBALL!!!
For some strange reason, one of the few universities that REFUSE to use their school colors: Harvard Crimson & Yale Blue.

Sounds like you have two incomes.
How many people currently in their 50s are dual income families?

Re: SMU updates Strategic Plan Progress Report for 2017-2018
We need to stop growing tuition - should freeze it for at least 5 years. Also - we need to grow the university - we are on the verge of being invisible in DFW and need to get our student body to at least 8k if not 9k undergrads. That will require a bunch more push for applications.
If we don't invest in this we are on a long slow decline in my view.

@DanFreibergerForHeisman - Amen - definitely need more Texas or southern students who will be more into football.
For this - I think SMU would love to grow its student base but we are land locked + we can't build up from my understanding due to city restrictions. SMU would need a billion dollars just to buy out all the multi-million dollar homes, bulldoze them, and then build up more dorms + schools to get the desired effect. We sadly can't build down nor up and doesn't seem we could ever go out. Perhaps we could build out dorms across 75 and north of mockingbird station and try to tie it all together. Sadly, that again would require tons of $$$ that we just don't have and sadly we can't piecemeal since that would just drive up the cost of land exponentially.

Re: SMU updates Strategic Plan Progress Report for 2017-2018
We could add 2 k undergrads without much issue from a facilities standpoint. Start by reducing the real estate occupied by Perkins. A few dorms would fit their quite nicely (they pay for themselves in room rate) and Perkins could get down to a bout 50 students and it wouldn't effect us in the least. Its just not what we need to be doing to survive.
