Rick Pitino

Assume with me for the sake of argument that SMU and Pitino have a meeting of the minds:

We would have new sanctions in under a week.

Posted elsewhere - but more appropriate here:

Just hire the OTHER Pitino...Then we can hire dad as a consultant to help us recruit. MN about to pull in a lot of talent - just enrolled a nat top 50 to go with the nat top 50 from last year (and a top 65 the year prior).

Imagine what little Rickey could do in the DFW recruiting hotbed (perhaps with Dad's help?)

Appears he is now making 1.7 Million a year up there at MN...

Agree that there HAVE to be better options, although nothing in the mold of Penny or Hurley jumps to mind (that are realistic), hopefully they are out there though?

What is Jank's contract status? Obviously are funds are limited for any sort of sizeable buyout.

No way..... SMU’s NCAA baggage is too great to bring in a known sleaze ball, NCAA violator like Pitino.

We need to find the next up and coming coach and pay them 1.5+MM / year. Hurley kinda guy.....

Forget Pitino....it's just not a great idea right now. We'd be the only DOUBLE DP in history and then we could all enjoy the latest edition of 30 for 30.

And I don't think Pitino Jr would jump at the opportunity to leave a legit P5.

I'm not sure who/what the answer is but it's best we start looking. I mentioned Jeff Van Gundy elsewhere and I'd for sure make that call...today!

Who else might be viable now?

I hear Dave Bliss is available. Same with Jon Schumate and every other former SMU HC since the 80s (not including Tubbs)

Scott Cross? He had a pretty nice thing going at UTA and got butt-raped. Now he's a Dixon assistant at Frogland. Not sure which of those two gigs is worse.

Scott Cross would probably be the best value hire we could get. I would definitely put him in my top 3.
