Shumate-esque
I had no idea how bad this team is. No offense; no defense; no coaching; no recruiting; no hope. On offense, there are five independent contractors - the guy with the ball goes one on one (or one on two or three) and the other four watch. Zero interior defense. The Wright St. behemoth could have scored fifty if they had gotten him the ball. Zero outside defense. All passes are uncontested. When a Bradley or Wright St. player shot a three, there wasn't an SMU player within five feet. The defense consists of an SMU player chasing the opponent with the ball and the other four standing and pondering the score board.
The Wright St. win was a once a year fluke. They are never going to get two concurrent performances again like they got from Whitt and MacMurray.
Douglas continues to "play" at a sub-walk-on level. Can't they yank his scholarship and put it in next year's class?
Mike might make a decent 8th man (5-10 minutes a game) on a second tier team. He is nowhere close to being a productive starter.
Single digits in wins for the season; maybe winless in conference play.

Certainly proof that the ranking companies can miss. Unless there is a huge improvement, hopefully whoever is the coach after the season, helps him find a program that would be a better fit.Charleston Pony wrote:Memphis Doug is certainly looking like another miss right now

College BB is littered with kids who received multiple quality offers in high school, but who were unable to succeed at the next level. It happens.PonySnob wrote:Certainly proof that the ranking companies can miss. But it’s pretty rare for a kid to receive no quality offers yet bloom* at the next level.

I don’t think single digit wins at all. More like 14 to 17 total wins.

Re: Shumate-esque
We will be better we can ever avoid crushing injuries and actually have 10 people to practice.
14-17 wins seems right.

Re: Shumate-esque
Now next year after Jarry and McMurray are gone it’s anybody’s guess on the number of wins.

Re: Shumate-esque
Perhaps next year we will have a coach who can recruit like the ones at UConn and Memphis.
Long live Inez Perez!

Re: Shumate-esque
All things considered .500 would be a reasonable goal with everyone healthy.
If Jarrey can’t contribute regularly and meaningfully we get 10-12 wins.
Whatever the outcome is I just hope we have a new coach in the spring.

Disagree with your perspective a little bitsadderbudweiser wrote:All things considered .500 would be a reasonable goal with everyone healthy.

The "reasonable goal" should be that the team gets into the NCAA tourney every year. That should be the expectation, and we shouldn't waver from that.
On top of that, the "reasonable goal" should be that a starting lineup of Ethan, Foster, Whitt, McMurray, and Mike (based on what he did his freshman year) should be able to compete in conference. And that Dixon, White, Hunt are nice pieces off the bench.
If we don't keep those as reasonable goals and drop the expectations, then there becomes a chance that we don't have a new coach here in the spring.
Re: Shumate-esque
If the reasonable goal is truly to make the NCAA tournament, then our only goal at this point in the season is to win the conference tournament because that is the only way this team gets in.
