College admissions scamJust saw where UT athletics was given over $560,000 to gain admissions for dumb, rich kids. Hmmmm.

Re: College admissions scamWhew! Glad to know that. Now, what about the admissions person/people?
Re: College admissions scam
I think that the tennis coach WAS the admissions person/people. Therein lies the problem. "Moral Victories Make Me Sick" - TR

Re: College admissions scamOh, gotcha.
Re: College admissions scamLack of institutional control is, I believe, what the NCAA calls it.

Re: College admissions scam
I thought that was only in SMU's case
Re: College admissions scamMuch as I might like to see some P5 schools get stung I'm hard put to see how the NCAA has a play in this. If some school wants admit, or put on a sports scholarship the dumb and / or clumsy child of a well off parent (or friend of a parent in a scratch each other's backs deal) well, mistakes in recruiting are made every year.

Re: College admissions scam
Well, no. If the President of the school, the Board of Directors, and the AD all knew about it then it would be a 'lack of institutional control.' But since then coach openly lied to the school then it's a felony, and that [deleted] could be facing major charges.
The problem as some see it is the inherent lowered academic standards that athletes are given in order to gain admission. If such differences weren't allowed, then there wouldn't have been this part of the scandal to begin with. Can't say I don't agree with them on that.
Re: College admissions scamWhat is the ideal role of athletics in a university setting? Currently, athletics is about a 30 hour per week proposition.
Re: College admissions scam
If there wasn’t a lower standard for athletes, Alabama would win every national championship in every sport into perpetuity.
Re: College admissions scamThey apparently only have scratched the surface. There are another 700 cases looming out there. I'm sure there are a ton of coaches wetting themselves right now and offering to give evidence to nail these parents. Funny thing is, some of these schools would have admitted a kid if the money had gone to the school instead of a coach and nary a blink of an eye.
UNC better keep that Ram away from Peruna
