Boulevard movementHi mustangs,
I just recieved this email from SMU athletics, sent to all undergraduate students. SMU Students: Based upon student input over the past few years, the Department of Athletics has implemented several initiatives aimed at enhancing the student experience on football game days. Examples include, but are not limited to: the construction of the Stables, the relocation of the student section (twice) and the addition of a “value” menu. One topic that has been discussed each year is the location of the Student Boulevard and, specifically, its distance from Ford Stadium. The time has arrived to relocate this activity closer to the stadium and tie it more closely to the football game. In an effort to make this new, reinvented and reimagined Student Boulevard the best experience it can be, leadership from Athletics and Student Affairs has been meeting regularly with various stakeholders, including student leaders from across campus. We have been collectively working to develop a vision for a pre-game and in-game experience that will appeal to the broad student population while also catering to the varying wishes of student groups and organizations. As a result of these conversations, we have identified “Mustang Mall” – the area from the Mustangs statue to Doak Walker statue (Moody Coliseum to the Dedman Center) – as the new location for the Student Boulevard. Our work to formalize the programming and logistics is ongoing; however, we are now seeking additional input to shape our plans in advance of the 2019 season. To ensure that the Student Body is fully informed about this matter, student leaders involved in these conversations will be holding an information session open to all students tomorrow, Wednesday, March 20, in the Fondren Library Starbucks area from 12 p.m. - 2 p.m. Should you have any clarifying questions or concerns regarding this topic, please stop by. If you are unable to stop by or would like more information, please email [email protected]. We are excited about the future of the Student Boulevard and look forward to working with you, the student body, on this opportunity that we have as an SMU Community to create a spirit-filled, pre-game and in-game experience that all students will enjoy. Pony Up! Thought you should all be updated.
Re: Boulevard movementWell, that'll be the end of that.
What do yall think? Half the amount show up? That might be too generous. Usually, the team that scores the most points wins the game - John Madden
Re: Boulevard movementSometimes I just laugh Quietly
You can't force kids to do something they don't want to do
Re: Boulevard movementShake Moody heheh
Re: Boulevard movementi'm betting IFC will boycott and then no students will be there.
Re: Boulevard movementDr Ashley has always wanted to kill the boulevard - this will start the process.
Peruna is my mascot!
Re: Boulevard movementTotally out of touch. Hope the students will say "FU" and boulevard on the boulevard. Mustang Mall is downright idiotic.
Re: Boulevard movementStudents don’t go to games so who cares
Re: Boulevard movementThe phrase "boulevard movement" brings up some bad memories.
An object at rest cannot be stopped!
Re: Boulevard movementWhat has been... has not worked.
What will be... may work. At least they are trying AND reaching out to students, IFC, Senate etc... for input. If SMU paid for a stage and a band and had discount BEvERages, gave away snacks... Had a stage show of Dallas Cowboy Cheerleaders or similar... Chile cookoff between groups on week and something another week like homecoming contest. Again - At LEAST they are trying. Go Mustangs. Mustang Militia: Fight the good fight"
Re: Boulevard movementTotally agree with BUS^^^. I don't understand why so few students attend games, has anyone ever asked them, done a poll to find out why? Also, don't understand why SMU doesn't expand the undergraduate student population.
Re: Boulevard movementThe problem I see here is that now not only will you not have the students at the game but perhaps also losing them in the game day activities which are at least a lure to the game. I have to admit that I would not like setting up on that surface.
All those who believe in psycho kinesis, raise my hand
Re: Boulevard movementWhy is the Mall far less attractive than the Dallas Hall lawn? Concrete vs lawn? Isn’t it closer to student housing?
Re: Boulevard movement
Being on concrete/brick will be dangerous in September
