THE BLOCK!!!!!!ponyte wrote:It is the most boring win in SMU history. The Defense played great. Without a great defense, victory is impossible that day. McIlheney was flawless, no mistakes like fumbles or interceptions.
But the real key to winning was the offensive line. Boring to be sure, but dominating. Drive after drive up the middle to eat up clock and make a few field goals. Almost 300 yards rushing against a defense touted to be one of the best in the nation. One pass completion for about 3 yards. One play, one run several times before in the first half that were unsuccessful, finally worked.
To this day, on a crisp Fall day with a few fluffy clouds, mostly sunny and about 70 degrees, I think, 'What a great day to beat the Whorns!"

That's why I think the SMU v Texas Tech game which was an emotional roller-coaster with perhaps the greatest single play in SMU History (maybe 2nd to Bobby Finley pass to win 1935 SMU-TCU game) was the greatest SMU game I ever saw. Emotionally gut-wrenching to an unparalleled euphoria in 17 seconds or less. Its the day that you knew God was a Mustang-and that happens once or twice a lifetime. Only regret is that the cameras didn't catch the wild celebration from goal-line to goal-lineponyte wrote:It is the most boring win in SMU history. The Defense played great. He may be humble but he took expensive gifts from a SMU alum while he was playing there. Including a car.peruna81 wrote:No need to...Dr Clement is humble like that...seriously.Arkpony wrote:How did he not mention that?

Oh and the alum that gave me those 3 cars gave me a nice, big Meercedes about 15 years ago. mrydel had a chance ot got to a game in it but thought it was to excessive. The nice thing about having a good sugar daddy at SMU is they don't forget one's needs even years after football. HOw I long for the good ole days!

My sugar daddy only went to night school at SMU for one semester. I got a 1968 Rambler.
