Re: Time to recognize
The Mustangs are one of just 12 remaining teams in the nation with only wins on the record and one of only three teams with six victories.
Defensively, SMU has emerged as one of the top units nationally. As of Sept. 16, the Mustangs lead the country in goals-against average, having permitted just one score on the season. Individually, keeper Shane Lanson is one of just four players with a perfect save percentage and goals against average.

Re: Time to recognize
If you look at our schedule it might appear as though we’ve only played one good team in Duke but Cal-Riverside is currently 5-1 with their only loss being to SMU, 1-0, and they have a win over the #14 in the country. Our game against Riverside was easily our most competitive, toughest match of the young season. They received 7 votes for the top 25 this week.

Now they just need to make an ΓÇ£American FootballΓÇ¥ thread too

Dumb. There is just real football and the one where people run around kicking a ball and end with a score 0 - 0. Glad we have a team that's great but soccer is a snooze fest.
There are forms of ΓÇ£footballΓÇ¥ played all over the world. Rugby football, Australian rules football, football, Gaelic football, American football. None of them are threatened enough to feel the need to change the name of another, except for the Americans. It’s pretty funny. The insecurity of American sports laid bare for all to see.

Good lord. It's a game. If you don't like it you don't have to play it. But don't rename it because it makes you feel inferior.

inferior?
laughable!
why would anyone care what Americans call sports in the US?
why would that MAKE THEM feel inferior?
we (people on PonyFans or anybody we know) didn't re-name it
we were born with it named football
we grew up with it named football
we played what we call football in our front yards
and we don't give a sheet what the rest of the world calls it
why would we care?
we live here...and here it's called football
if somebody in Kenya or Kosevo wants to call basketball "hoopi"
I don't give a rats-azz....whatever works for them

Re: Time to recognize
The Brits actually coined the term soccer and so afraid of the US becoming superior if we would ever get our act together they avoid using the term and are adamant about always calling it football.

Re: Time to recognize
Why do SMU soccer and volleyball charge NOTHING to attend those games?

Re: Time to recognize
Those who bash soccer have probably never been to a match to appreciate the athleticism of the players and just how physical a game it can be.
