Rules Changes For 2019

Post by DanFreibergerForHeisman »

Most notably moving the 3-point line back, but some other changes as well.

I can't wait to see how Coach Jankovich takes advantage of the changes!!!

https://www.espn.com/mens-college-baske ... ext-season

The men's college basketball 3-point line is being pushed back next season to the international distance of 22 feet, 1┬╛ inches, the NCAA announced Wednesday.

Three other proposals were also approved:

- Players being assessed technical fouls for using derogatory language about an opponent's race, ethnicity, religion, gender, sexual orientation or disability;

- Allowing coaches to call live-ball timeouts in the last two minutes of the second half and overtime;

- Conducting instant replay review for goaltending or basket interference calls in the final two minutes of the second half and overtime.

don't give Coaches any more timeout power-and take away the right to call multiple timeouts without an inbounds-we all got better things to do than watch coaching tactics

When momentum starts rolling downhill in recruiting-WATCH OUT.

Man, my most impressive moment in high school basketball could have been erased. 5'10" and called for goal-tending. That's a better story than scoring 30 points from the 3 point line (which they didn't have back then either).
UNC better keep that Ram away from Peruna

I wish they had adopted the lane-widening rule as well, but the push back of the 3 point line and no hand checking is going to make wing play even more dominant in the game. Games are going to be a lot of fun to watch.

From an analytics perspective, if a 40% three point shooter becomes a 35% three point shooter, they become a borderline drive-only player. If a 38% 3 shooter becomes a 33% 3-shooter, it is drive-only.

Ethan is going to be impacted big-time by this. His ability to shoot a 3 was really nice from a spacing perspective. But if he now only has legit range from just inside the 3-point line, analytically, you want him to stay close to the basket. Long-range non-threes and the mid-range jumper are a dying breed. That said, if he can still be a three point threat with more spacing, he becomes a really dominant player, because he can drive by other centers with ease.

Long-live LB and Nic Moore. LB with this amount of spacing, our offense would have been absolutely dominant (as efficient as it already was). Short, quick guards who can really shoot the ball are going to come back in vogue because with the old three point lines, they were punished defensively. Now they can survive. IF Jank forsaw this change coming, Cook actually becomes a nice player (if he had stayed healthy). But if Jank stays focused on a 3-heavy game plan, he might be in a little trouble.

Look for the zone to make a BIG comeback as well. Dare teams to shoot the new three and pack the inside. Give up the mid-range game. Wing play is really important because it will force the back defenders in the 2-3 to spread out; otherwise, they just compress inside and you have nothing but inefficient long-mid range jumpers.

I wonder how much the non-call on Gonzaga in the 2017 tourney contributed to this change. That miss and the subsequent technical on Collins who pretty much lost his mind as a result may have cost Northwestern the upset and a spot in the Sweet 16.

My guess — and it's only a guess — is that percentages will fall significantly more than that for many players.
Somewhere Larry Brown is smiling. He hated how many 3s went up in most games.

The review was actually to see if the shooter was behind the three point line, the goal tend could not be reviewed, they were only checking to see if it was a 3 point or a 2 point goaltend.
Probaly won't happen...BUT...maybe it will!!
