The Crazy is strong at the Coogs...

Postby peruna81 » Tue Sep 24, 2019 1:28 pm

UH QB D'Eriq King will sit out the remainder of the season to prepare for 2020 season...uh, yeah.

In addition, WR Keith Corbin will sit out to "concentrate on grades".

Changes the path to the championship game? Thinking it will raise Memphis and us as leading candidates...

Would not disrespect Tulane or anyone else in the West for that matter. I don't see any team dominating our division

Is this as simple as guys quitting on the season because they lost to Tulane?

If so, and if Holgorsen endorsed the idea, it speaks volumes about his disinterest in taking those guys anything about life.

Strongly suspect not. Focusing on graduating means going to the transfer portal.

It's a different world now with the transfer portal and 4 game eligibility to preserve a red-shirt. Last year there were a lot of red-shirts that played in championships and bowl games. This year they are using the first 4 to gauge fit.

As good as gone. Especially when Lincoln Riley offers $200K

I actually tend to agree with you - it doesn't hurt that IMO the second most difficult team on the schedule just lost their QB, RB, and top RB for the season. They just need to make sure they continue to take it week by week.

Just curious, how would you amend the rules? My first thought would be unless their is a medical issue the first year, red shirting would be limited to the first year only. Opinions?

Why change the rules? A redshirt is a redshirt. If a coach wants to sacrifice the entire senior class, that is his choice (that I would disagree with if I were the school or alumni, but it is his choice).

The school can always decide to *not* claim a redshirt and mess the player over if they want to, can't they?

I doubt any school would want to risk their reputation by tooling a senior that decides to redshirt even knowing the risk of graduate transfer is high.
My opinion is that the redshirt rule was designed to let first year players mature before playing, especially linemen.
Let’s see what happens. But, the school will be out a years tuition and R and B, fees and books, and a scholarship only to see these two leave for greener pastures the next year.

TBH, I've got no problems with redshirting some guys in order to build your program In his defense, Holgs said a number of times before the season that UH hadn't properly used the redshirt advantage, pointed out that MA had played waaaayyyy too many guys as true frosh, and that planned on doing so. Frankly, due to his decision, UH is going to be loaded next year, because the 'cougs are about to pull an SMU and have a 10 or so transfers ready to go next year, including a 5* LB from 'bama and a 4* CB from UCLA. Fine.

But why wait until you're four games in to announce the plan? Why wait until you're 1-3? Would you have done that had you been 3-1?

Whole thing reeks to high heaven.
