Looks to me like we could very well see something similar to 2011 when JJ's SMU team had just beaten TCU to go to 4-1 (lost the opener to A$M) and hosted UCF (who had beaten us 17-7 in CUSA Championship game the previous year). We had drawn 26,691 for the opener vs UTEP that year and 20,083 for Northwestern State and I think JJ thought we would pack Ford but expressed his disappointment when "only" 22,932 showed up to watch SMU whip UCF 38-17 (the ONLY time we have ever beaten UCF).

I think this is yet another major difference between JJ and Sonny because I think if we could draw 22,932 for Tulsa, Sonny would be pleased to see fan support momentum building.

During that 2011 season, when JJ's team went 8-5 with a win against Pitt in the Compass Bowl in Birmingham, we went on to draw 20,106 vs Tulane, 21,080 vs Navy and 14,472 vs Rice. The home attendance average that year was 20,894.

We are who we are and as Sonny has said, it's a long process to boost attendance. With weather expected to be clear and 90/69, we can expect some bandwagon alumni/students but I'd be pleasantly surprised if we can even reach that 22,932 figure. Tulsa, after all, is the smallest school in our conference so it's up to SMU fans to fill Ford next Saturday.

Being ranked means everything to the casual fan. Top 25 billing adds intrigue for those wanting to see what all the fuss is about. While we still may be #26-28, I expect a strong turnout plus Sonny has decently connected with students.

Not to defend Junebug quitting on us but that UCF game had one of the largest-ever discrepancies between tickets sold/announced, and actual butts in seats.

I hate to go against Peruna’s Law, but SMU will be ranked after dominating USF. That plus TCU 51, Rock Chalk 14 means voters unsure how to read SMU-TCU (in other words, whether SMU is good or TCU was overrated) will decide they’re good and we’re better.

I have been tailgating one game / year for the last several years, and this upcoming game vs Tulsa is the first time I've had several invitees request actual tickets to the game (vs just coming for Beer & Barbeque). I will have at least 10 people with me at the game this year. Can't wait until Saturday !

Family weekend couldn't happen at a better time. I still think we get no more than 80% but that still be an improvement.

This will be a jittery game:

Tulsa has been competitive with big programs and has two decent wins. We also are shooting for bowl eligibility which last year against them was stripped away. We have a target on our back.

Reasons for hope:

1) chip on our shoulder for not being ranked
2) revenge game

IN a normal season, the stadium would be less than half full for the Tulsa game. Like 12K in the stadium.

If the stadium is more than halfway full, I would consider that a success. Attendance growth isn't going to be instance.

I tend to agree. If we got 16k—8k butts in seats I’d count that as a win against Tulsa. Being ranked might push us to 20k. More than that will be a pleasant surprise

Very happy that stars have aligned and my husband and I will be able to be down in Dallas this weekend and able to go to the game! Meeting with my daughter’s wedding planner Friday, at her boulevard spot before game on Saturday then at the game where we hopefully go 6-0!!

EXCELLENT! Do what can be done to have this team well supported against Tulsa.

Seriously do a 5 dollar butt in seat promotion which comes with two free drinks including beer and wine.

Just don't do silly stuff like $83 promotions. You wont get anyone that way.
