gmail is good in that it gives you huge amounts of storage space, and has many nice features. For example, all the emails that go back and forth as replies are grouped together, so entire conversations will be grouped and not all over your inbox.

No, you have to be invited to gmail. It's just the way they have it set up.

They have it set up that way because it is still technically in beta testing and the final product hasn't been unvailed. In reality, at this point, it is just marketing.
