There has been a lot of discussion over the years here on PFs regarding our OOC schedule.

Do we go light with cream-puff opponents that hopefully generate wins, or play tougher opponents that generate early season crowds but also losses.

I think that argument can now be put to rest.

We were fortunate to play TCU in a down year. But playing Arky St, NTSU & Tx State has also contributed tremendously vs adding another local P5 opponent such as Tech / Baylor / Ok St or A&M.

Our foreseeable future schedule is extremely cream-puff. I’m certainly not as opposed to it as I was in the past if it leads to this type of publicity + rankings.

I would call this schedule mediocre, not cream-puff. And the AAC is tougher than it has been so no slouches there, especially with UConn leaving.

Secondly, I wasn't surprised that the coaches kept UT above us, there is more inertia there but the AP?? Disappointing.

If our goal is to get NY6 every year then yes cupcakes. If we want to grow our fanbase, position for a P5 conference then we have to look to a harder OOC. I'm not saying load up Alabama, Ohio State and LSU and TCU but we need to have another strong P5 on the schedule if we want recognition. Look at UCF, they're biggest wins come from NY6 otherwise they're an after thought in a down year.

Gotta work in a Tech or Baylor or A&M to go with TCU to get where we want to go - Power 5 -
then light as you want for the rest.

It's not like Tech/Baylor/Ok St/A&M are unbeatable this year. A win over one of them in place of a win over the G5s we played would have had us even higher in the rankings and getting even better publicity.

I think SMU is clearly better than Ok State and Tech, and also better than Baylor. The talent at A&M is there, but talent alone doesn't win you trophies. We play better as a team and would also beat them. A&M beat Nicholls State (who is that?) by 10 and only beat Arkansas Lite by 4. The B12 is down this year. It's Oklahoma, followed by a distance with Texas and then everyone else. Bring them on!

Ask yourself what our record would be if we had played Texas' schedule? Doubt we beat either OU or LSU but would we beat Okie State at Ford or West Virginia at their place? Hard to say but bottom line is, right or wrong, those latter 2 wins have more weight than our wins against TCU and Temple...but not by much for SMU & Texas to be ranked so close.

Our schedule has been about as well-suited to our needs as we could have hoped.

Arkie State, UNT, and Texas State helped a team full of transfers gel and come out with wins. Anybody tougher and we darn well may have lost.

TCU came along at just the right time to give us a quality win and help us with our confidence. They happened to have QB problems to boot .

An easy road win against a struggling USF team to cement our improvement. Come home for a motivated Tulsa team to help us grow, get a bye week in time to dismantle a top 25 Temple team.

Now we get a short week against a UH team in flux. If we have to play on Thursday night then let it occur with a head case program in front of a national audience. Hopefully it works out.

If so, we get a long week to prepare for arguably our toughest opponent, Memphis, and then it's back home against possibly the worst team on our conference schedule. Nice back and forth there.

WE GET A BYE WEEK BEFORE NAVY. That's huge. Meanwhile, they play Notre Dame that week. Whomever scheduled it that way deserves a raise.

Then back home to end the season against Tulane.

Halfway through the season our scheduling looks brilliant.
