Game won't draw any national attention unless we are both competing for conference championships. I'd like it to become what it was in the old days...before my time and back to when both schools were competing for national championships
I don't remember TCU competing for national championships pre DP really. Only in the last 15 years ish have they been good in the modern era. They were a doormat for a loong time.

Taken from SMU football media guide (history section). Only Mrydel was around in those days so he might be able to provide more details. He probably remembers the train ride to the Rose Bowl:
********************************************************
The Mustangs, ranked No. 1 in the country, played second ranked TCU and its star quarterback, Sammy Baugh, for the unofficial national championship and the right to play in the Rose Bowl Jan. 1, 1936, against Stanford. Bobby Wilson scored two touchdowns to give SMU a 14-0 lead before Baugh rallied the Horned Frogs to a 14-14 tie. Early in the fourth quarter, Bob Finley connected on a long pass to Wilson after the Mustangs faced a fourth down at the TCU 39. Wilson caught the ball at the five and rolled into the end zone as the Mustangs held on to win, 20-14, and earned a trip to the Rose Bowl.

I would've replied with the same info, which I'm sure ojai knows about as well, but ojai's post was saved by the word "modern."

Well, I did say I wish the SMU/TCU rivalry could be what it was in the "old days and before my time". I've been following SMU football and basketball since the early 60's and the Hayden Fry and Doc Hayes eras and can only imagine what this football rivalry was back then...even before Doak helped build the Cotton Bowl!

CP, if the planets align correctly next year, TCU wins @ Cal, Shane Buechele is still our QB and both teams are again undefeated when they meet....It will be a legitimate sell-out between old rivalries where the outcome is in doubt before kickoff.
In short, it will be the best game day experience in the 20-year history of Ford Stadium.

We can only hope, although opening night against Kansas along with opening of The Boulevard was pretty special

In my opinion, the Boulevard had little interest or energy against Temple. With the students removed from the scene the whole situation was simply flat. Yes, there was extra room to walk...etc., but that was the problem. Too quiet, no energy, little interest and too placid.

Please for the love of all things holy, we must find a way to ban the frogs from wearing the new uniforms they brought out this week ever at Ford. Seeing those along with a sweating Patterson is just more than a reasonable person should have to endure.

I saw a reference to them wearing their black alternates last weekend. At this point isn't something purple actually an alternate?

There is some purple, but lots of red. Think of our black/grey uniforms a few years back but add a purple helmet with a bright red outlined toad and red facemask.
