Red Zone Offense

Postby White Helmet » Fri Oct 25, 2019 11:57 am

Our Red Zone offense is terrible. We only score 74% our red zone trips (109 in the Nation) and our TD rate is only 59% (68th in the Nation).

You can tell Sonny and Lashlee are trying as we see lots of gimmicks and gadgets in the red zone. If we cant have Reggie or Proche run past guys we have nothing. We cant run when the space gets tight. We couldn't really run at all last night minus the big run Xavier made happen all alone.

Lack of a dependable kicking game is playing a big role in this. Reliable kicking game changes some of the play calling.

When your receivers aren't big, you need the line to win in the redzone. Our oline isn't dominant.. yet. This will clear up next year. This season, it is a pain point.

A lot stems from the lack of kicking game. We go for it on 4th so much since we don’t trust the kickers so our scoring percentage goes way down.

Wish we could see something utilizing Wiggins or Bell and their size advantage.

I tense up every time we make a long play but don’t quite get into end zone. I anticipate futile plunges into the line or ineffective passing attempts in an attempt to score a TD. Quite frustrating.

Yep, when the field gets short and we can't use the deep threat as in the Red Zone, it gets so much tougher for us. Kicking game however is getting better and that's a positive.

#89 and #97 are doing a good job of handling the kicking duties. All special teams had a good game Thursday night!
