SMU Negotiating a football series with UT?A rumour from Arkansas board. Any insiders aware of this?

Sounds like an unsubstantiated rumor to me. I wouldn't put much stock in anything said on an Arkansas board.

I am sure that Texas will keep their ears perked in case the "Red River Classic" becomes home and home. Although they do not need it right now, I am sure that Texas would like to keep a Dallas presence for recruiting. I look forward to the day we would welcome the game, and demand it be played at Ford. As it is now, if it happened it would probably be at the Cotton Bowl and the outcome a lot like the Okie St game a few years removed, only worse.
I might add though that I expect us to be able to play at a high enough level in the future to be able to welcome the matchup. But there is a lot of work to be done to get back there.
Just like Rice v U.T. was played at Reliant Stadium instead of Rice Stadium. A travesty. Hey, if Sam Houston State can schedule U.T. then surely SMU can, too! (or maybe it's the other way around...if U.T. can schedule Sam Houston State then surely they can schedule SMU!)
UT never happenUT seems adverse to playing SMU, maybe because we don't sell our share of the tickets. The Arkansas board had only an incidental reference to SMU being a prospect for the Horns. They are the only former SWC team not to have played SMU post-SWC. There must be a reason they avoid us.

Don't get me wrong, I'd LOVE to see UT and SMU play again. But as it stands right now, I don't think UT is interested. Texas plays at Baylor every other year and their stadium is about the same size, so it's not a matter of Ford being too small. I'm not sure what's preventing it from happening right now, but I wish it would.

frankly - texas u. gains nothing for playing us / i guess if i was them i wouldn't either but since i'm on the other side of the fence, i despise them & they are cowards!!! LOL

For some strange reason, one of the few universities that REFUSE to use their school colors: Harvard Crimson & Yale Blue.
There IS a reason UT is the only school that hasn't played SMU.
More than any other former SWC team, UT wanted SMU to dry up and blow away for our cheating. They still want us to pay. I don't think they'd schedule us regardless of money. What the h*ll do they need with money? They wipe with it down there. I'll never forget Mack standing up a press conference and blaming SMU's poor practice fields, in part, for the Longhorns' loss to Arkansas in the Cotton Bowl. What a cheap, cheap shot.
I forgot that he blamed SMU's practice fields for that loss. What did he blame for the loss in Austin a couple of years back on?
SMU becomes attractive to UT once UT moves the OU game home for $$$. Once UT needs more exposure in the Metroplex, then SMU and TCU become attractive again. OU gets it and wants the game to remain. UT is going to cut off its nose to spite its by taking a unique neutral site experience and putting it on the same level as the Iowa State -Mizzou game. Perhaps DeLoss will change the official color of UT to dollar bill green. "Everything is funny as long as it happens to some one else"- Will Rogers
The Horns also cheated, but they were better "connected" than the ponies. I seem to recall Marcus Dupree was the proud owner of a nice set of boots after his trip to Austin! However, the head of the NCAA rules committee at the time was a guy named Charles Wright. It is my understanding that Mr. Wright drove an orange Cadillac. Needless to say, UT's punishment did not include the loss of television and bowl appearances for 2 seasons like our probations always carried! It is also my understanding that Darryl Royal is not particularly fond of the Ponies and would never allow his Longhorns to play us so long as he can influence the decision. I could be wrong about this, but that is what I recall hearing after the Southwest conference imploded.
