We as a nation need to choose what we want to do with this. Minimum wage is set because it is supposedly the absolute minimum that someone can work for and survive. Is it not wrong to pay these people less than that?

Also, from what I read on cnn.com, labor costs are not the biggest cost associated with produce, and would have a minimal effect on prices. They would go up, but not like people think they would.

Also, if we want Mexicans to come here and work as wage-slaves, why can't we have them do it legally? Maybe build dorm style housing to put them in, no families, just workers, have them harvest, then ship them back. Or just pay people decent money.

We are now closer than FC Dallas up in Frisco (why isn't anyone upset that we lost FC Dallas to Frisco?), and if we sold tickets for a dollar we could probably get some people on campus that love soccer, and would be looking for a local team to root for since they can't watch their national team all that often.

Exactly what I have been saying for over a year now. We could make a fortune off all the soccer crazed mexicans we have swarming around dallas. Don't we have some hispanic players we can put on a billboard?

I'm not really trying to disagree with you that we need to have them come here legally; just trying to point out to those that think we should keep them all out of the US that things would definitely change with our economy if we did.

I'm also starting to question letting in any immigrants from Mexico ........ the rallies where they all paraded around with mexican flags really makes me question whether or not they love america, or just love the high pay.

Next time I see someone waving a confederate battle flag during a protest of laws preventing confederate citizens from entering the US, I will.

I'm assuming that's a band term? Associated with playing a horn or some other wind instrument! Right Couch 'em. And with regard to the immigration bill. There are three choices none of them very good. (1) Ship all illegals back home. That's 11 Million people folks. You would line busses up from the Rio Grande to Alaska end to end to hold that many people. And they'll all want some sort of due process hearing. That'll clog the INS and Courts. To do that would cost a minimum $25,000 per illegal x 11 Million. $252 Billion would be my guess. (2) Give them amnesty. That's rewarding bad behavior. And do you really want them to vote? (3) Guest worker and go to the back of the line for citizenship. Sort of a middle ground but not great either. Those are the choices. As to legalizing drugs, not gonna happen until Phillip Morris cigarette profits get too low, then they'll push to legalize pot and market Mary Janes, smooth Mexican gold buy them at your local 7-11 where they still don't check ID's very often.

Yeah, so...yay, SMU made the rankings again this year...woo hoo...Ok, so im just curious how a thread on SMU's ranking in US News got morphed into an argument over illegal immigration...Maybe we are ranked so low because it doesn't teach it's students how to focus on the topic at hand--just a theory though.

Just exactly what heritage do you think you are honoring when you fly the confederate battle flag, that's right, that you thought your state was better than the United States of America and still do, you are only here because your forebears couldn't economically support an army.

That isn't a good analogy.... If I were arguing against using the Mexican flag in a cinco de mayo parade, or on their business that appeals to recent immigrants, then it would apply. I'm not talking about that. This is a bit different. I think "I love Mexico" sentiments in the recent protest is quite different. Again, if you wanted to show how you are American, love the oppertunities in America, and want the chance to stay here, why would you fly Mexican flags?

BTW, Eddie, technically that argument was band kid vs band kid (although both have since graduated).
