don't forget, UT might back out, but there has been talk of moving the Tech-A&M game to the Cotton Bowl, and possibly keeping OU in the area with game against either of them if UT decides to go home and home with OU. Also Notre Dame has talked of adding a rotating regional game with the new 12th game that would rotate on a 4-5 year basis to keep the exposure for the Irish nationally. I've heard Miami and Dallas as the top two of these 'semi-home' game sights.

absolutely, SMU should be using every angle it can think of to get Notre Dame to come to Dallas. We have a history together and same academic goals. And, uh, by the way, didn't our new AD graduate from ND? If he is as aggressive as they say, no place better to start than getting ND on the schedule.

And judging by our attendance, we need to use "rent-a-fans" as much as possible. So far, CUSA has not exactly been bringing large crowds from visiting schools to SMU.

I agree the feasibility of scheduling UT down the road is dependent on what heppens with Texas/OU. With expanded stadiums, it's tough for an independent venue to match the revenues that can be made playing home/home. As for that series losing any of it's luster...well, it hasn't hurt any of the other classic rivalries like Michigan/OSU or USC/Notre Dame that have always been played home/home.
College football has become all about the revenue, so if SMU can get UT or OU or A$M to come to Dallas, it shouldn't bother us to play in the Cotton Bowl or Texas Stadium or any venue twice the size of Ford...provided we get a favorable financial split...and I'm not even suggesting that would need to be 50-50%
Let's leave the home/home series to SMU/TCU, SMU/Baylor, SMU/UNT, etc...

Waitaminute. SMU finally gets an 'on campus' football stadium and now you want to abandon it for some games against schools that would bring large crowds to it? Crowds that would spell the word 's-e-l-l-o-u-t' whereas at those other venues it would not. Plus, the fans of those other schools would not get to experience The Boulevard. Isn't SMU trying to attract more fans to its games...fans of other schools who might not necessarily be able to travel to games at their schools' campuses? Here's the chance.

I disagree. SMU should insist that the games are at Ford. I remember having quite a laugh when the UT supporters learned that the temporary bleachers installed for them at Houston's field were unsafe, and they'd be unable to attend.

Either play a ND series in an updated Cotton Bowl, or we could easily expand Ford to 45K economically. That would be worth it to lock in a ND game, even semi-annually.

i dont think ND would lock in long term with anybody except USC for more than a series or two. Maybe Navy. Everybody else they seem to like to rotate with other opponents. Even Michigan rotates on and off of their schedule.

ND plays Navy every year because the Navy Department rented the ND campus during WWII which allowed ND to keep its doors open. ND plays USC every year. I thought they played Michigan State every year. Other than that they've played Michigan, Georgia Tech, FSU, Air Force and Stanford with some regularity. Everyone else they play sporatically. Baylor had a one and done with them awhile back. I'd like to see us play us on a semi-permanent basis but who wouldn't.
