I suspect, going in, Southwest believes that if there is no agreement, at a minimum, the Wright Amendment will be expanded to include states adjacent to existing states, which would add Georgia, Florida, Tennessee, Kentucky, Illinois, Iowa, Nebraska, Colorado and Arizona.

If this deal doesn't end up with SWA flying to Vegas out of Love, I'm going to be pissed. And if Herb's not satisfied with the outcome, I doubt he'll hesitate to pull up the HQ anchor and go elsewhere--then where will our illustrious mayor be?

um guys, if the Cowboys meant so much to the City of Dallas, why didn't they save them in the 1970s from leaving? Miller wasn't involved in the unsuccessfull wooing of the Rangers or Lone Star Park to downtown Dallas
I wish they were in Downtown and the Cotton Bowl /RRS had been saved as much as any, but these aren't new problems. The RRS is moving to home and home because DeLoss Dodds wants more cash and he has the hammer now. These things could have been addressed for over 15 years now from the City and the game could be moved to Arlington just as easy, but the "Dallas won't work with us" excuse is just too easy to use in Austin.


Miller isn't gonna be confused with any great leaders from the past, but she will bear the blame for the City Council which only give a damn about their own little fifedoms. Kirk was just far smoother in dealing with the media. Examples- he was the guy that hired Boltonas chief, who then unjustly demoted senior officers, who in turn sued the city and won. Kirk and his admin negotiated the deal for the AAC, only to give away Reunion Arena's bargaining chips, essentially killing it's usefullness by giving the AAC right of first refusal on all events in the city. And then the City Manager who negotiated the deal against Hicks took a position with Hicks Tate.


As for the Wright Amendment, think it out- it's not all her call, it's a FEDERAL LAW regarding a 30yr old agreement with a semi-hostile Ft Worth on the deal. I want it repealed as much as anyone, but call your Congressmen and Senators, because that's where the decision will ultimately be made

I completely agree with all of this and thought Laura Miller was an idiot from the beginning (especially so because my dad works for the city). Of all the things she has the most control over in this city - I think he biggest mistake was writing a letter supporting the University of Texas at Dallas in support of the Bush Library - and not for SMU over a stupid rift with her and Ray Hunt. Once the library is here - if she is still in office - you know she is going to be front and center with a big pair of scissors trying to say she wanted it here all along.

If I were Turner, I wouldn't invite her to the ribbon cutting. Last time I checked, University Park was not part of the City of Dallas, so she has no right to be there. In other words, tell her to buy a ticket and look at it like any other tourist. The snub would be noticed and she would get to whine about how this was payback for her supporting UD. And of course she would be right, and the folks in Dallas that she did herself in.

i think its 2008. Miller is completely ineffective, divisive and just plain stupid. If she had any sense of decorum and class, she would have resigned before the strong mayor referendum. It probably would have passed that way, and she actually would have created herself a legacy. It was such an obvious and simple move. But like many other obvious things, she just doesnt get it. The real loss when the Rangers couldn't be pursuaded to come into the city. Or we simply didn't provide the incentives. I attended a bb game in San Diego last year, what a difference it made to the City and surrounding bars, restraunts, etc. Five times the home games, summer, etc. much better than football to actract people downtown. Had the Rangers come, Jerry would have had to think twice!
But, Laura will get her bridges! Maybe the voters thought they were voting on something that were help her smile, not traffic.

Do not give the credit to Jerry as he did not want to simply renovate the Cotton Bowl-- he wanted to take over the land and rebuild the whole thing with him making the calls and giving him the ability to redevelope the real estate around it.

Dallas was used as a stalking horse the whole time.

There are serious issues at City Hall- and not all are the mayor's fault. She just gets the majority of the blame. Now, I will agree that it's sad that Houston can build a new football, baseball and arena in the time it takes Dallas to build one. Look at OKC- they've built a new arena, a new baseball stadium, diverted a river and built a canal in their downtown since the Ballpark in Arlington was built. Heck, look at Arlington with 2 stadiums in the amount of time that Dallas has built the AAC.

Mex, I agree with you on the impact of a Baseball and a Hockey/Basketball stadiums being much more than football stadium, but those were negotiated/lost before Miller

You are correct, baseball needs to be in downtown stadiums. There are around 80 home games with many day games and double headers that are best served with a population working within walking distance or mass transit to the ballpark. Both the Rangers and Dallas screwed up.
