Transfer portal/UC

Post by Terry Webster »

One of the things I think that the ncaa needs to look at is how I think the portal is being abused. UC hired a new coach and now 2-3 of his top players at UNC Greensboro have transferred over to UC. It is one thing to poach a coach but now I have a feeling that teams will hire coaches based on who they can bring with them from their old school.

True, but that would be short-term thinking. Unless they plan on changing coaches every 2-3 years, a school requires far more from a coach than just the players he can bring with him from his previous school.

UNCG (like any other school) is at risk of players departing at the end of the season.

Unless they promote from within, UNCG will hire a coach from another school, he may bring a player or two from his previous school and the cycle will continue.

When you have free agency for both coaches and players, this is one outcome.

I was hearing on ESPN and atleast this anchor doesnt like the portal as its making 95 colleges to recruit the players again.Seems slowly pushback is developing to portals.
