Ironic how things pop up.

Someone mentioned they had been re-watching the TCU game. I popped in the 1982 SMU-Texas DVD, and what would you know, but at the end of the first half, the sideline reporter interviewed Bobby Collins...

To paraphrase:

Sideline Reporter: Coach, we noticed you have Dickerson and James in the same backfield some now. Craig James was quoted in the NY Times saying he had been frustrated with playing time. Coincidence?

Bobby Collins: Isn't it ironic how a 'controversy' gets play in the NY Times when all we want to do is get people to pay attention to Southern Methodist University? Maybe we should start more to get more pub

I've never been big on the DMN not covering SMU much. Here's evidence within the body of available literature, though, that suggests even when the Ponies were winning, it was the NY Times, not the DMN (or the Times Herald) cited.
