3 Mustangs headed to NBA Summer League

DALLAS (SMU/NBA) — Three Mustangs will play with NBA teams for the 2021 NBA Summer League in Las Vegas. Feron Hunt signed as a free agent with the Dallas Mavericks after the NBA Draft, Ben Moore signed with the Memphis Grizzlies before the Utah Sumer League after spending the 2020-21 season with the South East Melbourne Phoenix in Australia and Isiaha Mike inked a deal with the Toronto Raptors after playing for Niners Chemnitz in Germany last season.

The NBA Summer League runs August 8-15 with bracket play starting on August 16.

Feron Hunt – Dallas Mavericks

Hunt signed with the Dallas Mavericks as a free agent immediately following the NBA Draft. In 2020-21, Hunt averaged 11.1 points (19th AAC), 7.9 rebounds (3rd AAC), 0.9 blocks (10th AAC), 2.1 offensive rebounds (6th AAC) and 5.9 defensive rebounds (2nd AAC). He shot 56.0% overall (4th AAC), 73.3% on FTs (14th AAC) and finished with five double-doubles. The All-American Athletic Conference Third Team honoree finished his three-season SMU career fourth in field goal percentage (55.7%), 32nd in rebounds (533) and tied for 17th blocked shots (67). The Mustangs went 30-16 with Hunt in the lineup the past two seasons, earning a 2021 NIT bid.

Mike signed with the Toronto Raptors after playing the 2020-21 season with Niners Chemnitz in Germany. In 2019-20, he was an All-American Athletic Conference Third Team honoree as a junior at SMU. In his final season on the Hilltop, he averaged 14.0 points (10th AAC) and 6.3 rebounds (9th AAC) while shooting 80.5% from the FT line (4th AAC), 48.1% from the field (8th AAC) and 37.7% from 3-point range (8th AAC).

Moore signed with the Memphis Grizzlies before the Utah Summer League and played in the three games August 3-6. He played last season in Australia with the South East Melbourne Phoenix. He was on a two-way contract with the Indiana Pacers/Fort Wayne Mad Ants and the San Antonio Spurs/Austin Spurs from 2017-19. He also played for the Mad Ants in 2019-20. As a senior at SMU in 2016-17, he was named an NABC Division I College All-Star, All-American Athletic Conference Second Team and AAC All-Tournament that season as the Mustangs won the AAC regular season and tournament championships and made the NCAA Tournament. The Mustangs also won the 2014-15 AAC regular season and tournament championships. When Moore finished his career, he was 2nd in wins (108), 25th in points (1,214), 9th in rebounds (780), 8th in blocked shots (125), and T-23rd in steals (102) while also dishing 242 assists.

Always thought Ben Moore was a bit of an unsung hero for those Larry Brown teams. He was always a pretty versatile guy and did a lot of things well...was just never a very good mid-range shooter which might be all that has held him back from being a significant contributor for some NBA team
