Teams to Replace UH, Cincinnati, and UCF?Moderators: PonyPride, SmooPower Teams to Replace UH, Cincinnati, and UCF?Please discuss.
Re: Teams to Replace UH, Cincinnati, and UCF?1. Boise
2. Army 3. Air Force 4. San Diego State or UNLV (because it’s Vegas) or Colorado State - but just one This would make for a good TV league and one we can win…
Re: Teams to Replace UH, Cincinnati, and UCF?Not a bad list, and I would think not unrealistic
Plagiarize!
Let no one else's work evade your eyes. Remember why the good lord made your eyes. So don't shade your eyes, just Plagiarize, plagiarize, plagiarize! (Only be sure always to call it, please .... "research.")
Re: Teams to Replace UH, Cincinnati, and UCF?USF needs a travel partner. Who would that be?
Where is Boise State in all of this? Shouldn't they be best school available? Last edited by PonyTime on Fri Sep 03, 2021 8:43 pm, edited 1 time in total.

Re: Teams to Replace UH, Cincinnati, and UCF?Boise State
San Diego State Fresno State Colorado State/UNLV West: SMU, Tulsa, Boise State, San Diego State, Fresno State, Colorado State East: Temple, USF, ECU, Memphis, Tulane, Navy If we can't add the western block, then go east but only add 2. SMU, Memphis, Temple, USF, Navy, Tulsa, Tulane, ECU, 2 of: Appalachian State/UAB/Marshall/Buffalo/Northern Illinois
Re: Teams to Replace UH, Cincinnati, and UCF?If the AAC is picked clean by losing 2-3 schools then just shut it down. Who wants left over seconds just to add numbers to a conference that will be 'walking dead"?
Re: Teams to Replace UH, Cincinnati, and UCF?Adding 4 top MWC schools to form a western wing wouldn't be a downgrade. Alternately, I would talk to Memphis about pairing up and heading to the MWC. I don't think either of those moves would be much of a downgrade. It just wouldn't be the amazing upgrade of moving to the Big XII with our historic regional rivals and a nice pay increase along with added exposure. SMU needs to keep doing what it has been doing the last few years in football and try to improve recruiting in basketball with the Ra'Shaad Samples of basketball.
Re: Teams to Replace UH, Cincinnati, and UCF?
Dude we were in the WAC and Conference USA now you want to talk about shutting it down? lol
Re: Teams to Replace UH, Cincinnati, and UCF?We need to be in a conference with at least one other Texas school. UTEP and Rice come to mind. I also think that UTSA has potential in the long run.
Re: Teams to Replace UH, Cincinnati, and UCF?We don't need to be in a conference with one other Texas school. We need to be in the best possible conference. TCU was in the MWC by itself and did well. We can do the same. We just need to keep recruiting and winning and things will take care of themselves.
Re: Teams to Replace UH, Cincinnati, and UCF?
why not?? we have shown we can not compete at the top level. for years we struggled with fb. we finally got a coach who could improve our bball and Turner and our AD ran him off because they didn't like him filling the stands and having important people there and having a top national program. Look, Turner is Pye in disguise. How many years did it take for him to embrace sports?? Plus we have a few supporters who help fund fb. No longer do we have that in bball and that program has fallen to new lows since LB. Why continue the pain and frustration? SMU does what SMU does and that is preferring mediocrity- which is sad. Few remember the Walker days of winning, the SWC championships, and the days when people had respect for our sports programs. Those days are long gone.
Re: Teams to Replace UH, Cincinnati, and UCF?We are coming off a bowl invitation in football and NIT appearance in men's basketball. We are recruiting better in both sports than we have at any point since the death penalty with the exception of the Larry Brown years. Now is not the time to give up.
Re: Teams to Replace UH, Cincinnati, and UCF?Many of the names are good. I don’t know if Coastal Carolina is a flash in the pan, but they might be a school to consider down the road.
UNC better keep that Ram away from Peruna
Re: Teams to Replace UH, Cincinnati, and UCF?I don’t get the “give up” option nor do I blame Turner or Hart.
Remember how we felt as an also ran in CUSA? We got into the AAC despite our track record and low attendance numbers. We struggle with multiple coaches and made progress with Jones and Morris. Now we have Sonny on the Hilltop, our recruiting has improved dramatically and our new marketing and brand, as Dallas’ College Team, is creating a more competitive team and drawing new fans. Candidly, UH, Cincinnati, UCF and BYU have numbers (winning records and stronger fan support) that we need to replicate. Given our current situation, we are more attractive than ever. With continued success on the field and 25-30K in Ford, we will be the next call up by someone. Texas’ market and recruiting pool will continue to be a magnet for other conferences, especially playing in the metropolitan ares of Dallas and Houston. My personal view and wish is that a big conference, e.g. PAC12 or the ACC, will look at us as a diamond in the rough. If you value credible academics, big media markets and access to Texas recruits, why not seek two schools, Rice and SMU, as your Texas and Central Time Zone partners. Rice has a big stadium and we can easily commit and quickly add 12+K seats to Ford. Rice and SMU would spend the money in a heart beat and give PAC12, for example, media visibility in the media friendly Time Zone, CT, to their PT and MT teams. Candidly, the Mustangs and Owls add prestige, market access and new value to either ACC or PAC12 now that the Big 12 is moving in another direction. Call me crazy, but the bean counters can make this is case. Last edited by Water Pony on Fri Sep 03, 2021 9:11 pm, edited 1 time in total.
