The offseason - things I'm missing and looking forward to

Postby LonghornFan68 » Thu Apr 06, 2006 4:10 pm

All I have to say is, thank gawd for hockey. Without it, I'd probably have to be doing constructive things around the house and sorely missing the days that contact sports were in action again.

So, in an effort to keep spirits high and the conversation loose, here are the things I'm looking forward to next fall:

1) Chris Phillip's first 80-yd touchdown catch - Seriously, I think this move to TE is a good thing for him and a great thing for SMU football. While I'd love to see him at QB, having him on the field in this capacity is a good thing - at least he's on the field.

2) SMU shocking the football world by beating Tech - at home - Mark it down, it will happen.

3) Tulane game in NOLA - This will be a fun game. I love me some NOLA. I look forward to meeting a bunch of you out there and cheering for the Mustangs in the Superdome. Viva Bourbon Street.

4) SMU's bowl game - Mark it down, it will happen.

5) Texas' home game against OSU - Texas' first and likely biggest test of the season. I hope Colt McCoy or Jevan Snead is ready to go for this game.

6) Texas/OU in Dallas - There's only 2 left. I've got to enjoy them while I can.

7) Texas returning to a BCS bowl game - This team will be as good as last year's, only it'll be a team effort instead of a one-man juggernaut.

So, what are you looking forward to next season?

Things I'm looking forward to this season..

1. Justin Willis at QB.. he's green, but he's a really intelligent player and he's got some wheels. Throwing to E. Sanders and C. Givens.. the future?

2. SMU at Tech.. can't wait to go up there and watch. I just want us to compete and not get injured.. anything more is gravy

3. Big Number 8 (D. Martin) busting through the line for big gains and Touchdowns. He's a great kid and extremely fun to watch bust through tackles.

4. Jessie Henderson.. not sure what it is, but he's got a completely different gear than everyone on the field. Let's hope he and the ball come together this year.. no more fumbles. Speed baby.. speed

5. The Boulevard and all the beautiful baby's.. they're so money and they all know it!

6. SMU and the Big Easy.. nuff said

7. D-Line.. Rodgers, Muse, Haywood getting bigger and better this year

8. Joseph Ferguson emerging from the scout team and Northwestern.. really curious to watch him.

9. Texas versus the Buckeyes in Austin.. should be fun to watch as I have always pulled for Texas with my brain and SMU with my heart.

10. First Home Game.. Always a party. Just hope I don't pass out prior to the game
What we obtain too cheap.. we esteem too lightly. It is persistence alone that gives everything its value.

Longhorn,

I must say that I finally agree with you - Tech IS going down.

But, the UT babblings?

Save it for Mack. I have to read that crap enough in the DMN.

Sure, you're allowed.

However - anything wrong with leaving out UT's prospectus on an SMU board?

What are your thoughts on the Kansas City Chiefs?

Yeah, their defense can't be any worse this year than last. I hope Priest Holmes makes it back into the starting lineup, but if not, that he gets traded to a team that needs his skill.

On the other hand, I'm planning on flying out there (yup the arse end of Texas) for that game. And going with a Tech grad at that! I gotta' have some kind of faith we will win. But, um... that's a bold statement.

When I'm bored at work tomorrow I will actually respond to what I am most looking forward too.

(As per the former Dallas Texans - the KC Chiefs - it sucks that [deleted] Vermeil retired... he shouldn't retired the first time... the Rams would have won at least one, if not two, more Super Bowls had he not retired.... not to sound like a Rams "fan" or anything, but the family is from the STL and I have seen a bunch of Lambs games... they were too good to waste away like they did.)

Im looking foward to:

Lots more of the spread with several weapons on O like Ray Pellerin, B Chase, Columbus Givens, Johny Fitz, D Martin, and J Willis.

Another "All-American" performance by DeMyron Martin.

More TD's for lil Jesse Henderson

A surprising but yet sweet booter in Thomas Morestead

A new freshmen sensation

A run stopping front 4 with Rodgers, Bonds, and Haywood

Alot more W's

Bowl Game

Conference USA title

and, A 4+ game winning streak

NOT TO MENTION THE IRON SKILLET FOR ONE MORE YEAR...[deleted] TCU!

Good point - I'd like to see what Morestead can do. When I swung by practice, he absolutely blasted a few, but he also squibbed a few short ones out of bounds. I'm willing to see him sacrifice a little power in exchange for consistency.
