Morgan Is By Far The BEST Candidate Available

Postby bigmoney » Sat Apr 08, 2006 11:17 am

Wayne Morgan will turn SMU to a winner. Let me explain why:

1. A proven winner!Spent many years under Boeheim at Syracuse. Look at the players he recruited while at Syracuse. He was their MAIN RECRUITER. BIG ties to the major AAU programs and Prep Schools in the EAST. If he can get a Curtis Stenson to tiny Ames, Iowa, just think what he could get to Big "D". Stinson didn't go to Ames because of the town. He went because of Morgan!
2. Major ties to the top AAU programs in the East and the major Prep schools. That is how you get the BEST players.
3. Can fill stadiums. Look at his attendance at Iowa State. They called it "Hilton Magic" because Wayne filled the place!
4. His players love him. At his press conference, ALL the players stood by him. Players who were out of town flew back to show their support for him.
5. Top Assistant has MAJOR West Coast ties.Assistant came from USC and has many contacts with the top AAU programs in the West.
6. Can unite the DISD school system so the best Dallas players come to SMU. Morgan can recruit!!!!!!!!
7. All that happened at ISU was the new AD wanted his own man. That will be their major loss. Just watch Iowa State this year!
8. As the Big 12 coaches said at the start of this years tournament in Dallas: We don't want to face a Wayne Morgan team! They are always well schooled and DANGEROUS to play!
9. Spoke with Morgan while in Dallas this year at the Big 12 : He LOVES Dallas and the people. Couldn't stop talking about what a great town and state he was in while in Dallas. He would get the best players in Dallas and would stay very close to all the coaches. He has always been that way and will never change.
10. This man is the real deal that can turn this around quicklly. He already has TOP PLAYERS in the United States that are just waiting for him to land a job and they will be following him. See how many have asked out of their committments to Iowa State. They are waiting for Wayne!

All the rest of your arguments make good points, but this? Have you ever been to Ames? The reason why he got people into Hilton Coliseum was because that's the only thing to do, unless you want to go on a silo tour or something of that nature.

In Dallas, he would face a much more uphill battle to get people into Moody. There's so much else to do around town, it's not the same animal as Ames.

MORGAN: Best For The SMU B-Ball Job

Postby bigmoney » Sat Apr 08, 2006 11:39 am

Great point! What I meant was that he filled the place and because of his recruiting ability, he will fill the place.
Big recruiter will fill places. Bid D loves sports, but especially they love a winner. Morgan will win and win quickly. I did love your reply! Let's go after him and enjoy the good life at SMU

I was fortunate enough to be able to have played in Ames in college and i must admit it is very intimidating! I understand your viewpoint Big $ about if you WIN it is pretty amazing how the seats will get filled!!!! Quality points about Morgan if we could get that opportunity it would be great for the state and most importantly the City. We run into the same problem all big city University's do, do much going on at one time. Look at USC and UCLA, USC is lucky to get 5,000 at there games. UCLA one of the elite programs in the country (Made it to the National Championship) and they do not fill every game, it blows my mind! We need to find out if he is available and interested, $ should not be an issue with someone of his stature.

Was able to watch Iowa State play this year on National T.V a few times and I must say WOW! They are very exciting and fun to watch, I had myself looking in the paper to see when Iowa State was going to play again becasue they run, press and get out the gates!!! This would be ideal

I agree that winning should be able to improve our attendance, but we're not going to fill the place solely on winning. He also has to work the media to where they pay attention to us. Winning does no good if no one knows about it. And right now, the Dallas media has turned against our basketball program. If you don't believe me, look at what Blackistone has said about the Tubbs firing. I don't know if bringing in someone from a different part of the country will win favor with the media.

Now he is African American, which would go a long way toward smoothing things over. But as far as dealing with the media, I don't know if he has the charisma required for the enormous job he would face. That's not to say he doesn't have it---I just don't know enough about him.

You can win as much as you want, but unless you can get people around your area to know about it, you can end up like UCLA, as KimballHoops points out.

Bigmoney, I just noticed that these are your first posts here, and on behalf of the members of Ponyfans.com, welcome. Your first posts have been quite insightful.

unfortunately his name has been mentioned in connection with the possible scheduling of teams to benefit Los Angeles City College and there has been talk of amounts paid of of perhaps as much as a Million Dollars involving several school including Iowa St. Last year, Iowa St paid D1 Scheduling which is owned by the Head Coach of Los Angeles City College approximately $350,000 to schedule certain games over several years. D1Scheduling then pays the opponents a fraction of that amount as game gurantees. The NCAA is investigating where all the other money is going and the named teams apparently have been successful in recruiting certain players from the school involved with D1 Scheduling.

Morgan To SMU

Postby bigmoney » Sat Apr 08, 2006 11:53 am

Morgan loves Dallas and the players he can bring to SMU. We all know you have to have strong AAU and prep school ties to win. Morgan is tied to the Boeheims, etc... He has a strong group of college coaches supporting him. Morgan loves high school coaches and he will be all over the DISD coaches. He is their kind of a guy! It could be a little scary if someone of his stature could get SMU. I just hope Manhatten doesn't go after him hard. But remember, he loves Dallas! That could be a plus!

Have been reading last night and this morning on the availability of Wayne Morgan, as of right now it looks like he is available and is looking to resurface. I know that Manhattan is very interested in him and Fran but if we can get on it early we could land a sleeping giant. As we all know we could pay as much as Manhattan but he will have to realize and factor in the cost of living and state tax! Great Post Big money, I know you can afford to get him here! I do not anyone close to him or who even knows him but I am trying to find out to find out his situation.

Pony98 wrote:The AD at Iowa State made it very clear that D1 scheduling had nothing to do with it. There were no alligations or rules broken, it is just Gregg Doyel getting off on his stupid writings! The AD said his reasoning was he felt the program was not going in the right direction aka he is a new AD and wants to bring one of his own in. As of tainted goods are involved, what about Huggins and Sampson? I feel if we do not go after Morgan someone else is going to get a great hire. As for Rob Evans, Arizona State is a program that coaches call a sleeping giant! Any place that has the budget, campus and facilities I feel you can win there!

The administration has made it clear there are not violations and it is over with!

Morgan

Postby bigmoney » Sat Apr 08, 2006 11:59 am

The people at Iowa State says there were NO problems with the money to get schools to come to play ISU. Everything has been proven that there were no impropriorities at all. Morgan is clean here and that is why you havenever hear anything again about it. It was nothing but a new AD wanted his own person. The athletic department knew everything in advance. That should not be an issue here.
Morgan has alot of class. Talks to everyone and the players love him. He could easily handle the media, because of his personality.

I'm sure the "people" at Iowa St say that-because their [deleted] is about to be laid out by the NCAA. Paying $350,000 to a JUCO head Coach to arrange schedules of a bunch of pansies has a distinct odor of bullcrap. No surprisingly, Iowa St signed a top JUCO transfer at about the time of the deals from-you guessed it-Los Angeles City College. There is no way in hell SMU is going to go anywhere near this pile.

For those who do not know prep schools are taking over college basketball, someone with prep school ties can bring the goods. Out of his Iowa State team this year they had 5 players from the prep league including All-Big 12 players Stinson and Blalock who have both entered the draft this year. This connection is extremely important and valuable to a program who needs to get things rolling like we do!

Morgan: BEST CANDIDATE For SMU

Postby bigmoney » Sat Apr 08, 2006 12:19 pm

Kimbelhoops is 100% correct.Prep schools product BIG Talent and you need someone with those ties! Morgan has it.

For the D-1 question, the money was nowhere near what you said, Check the Des Moines Register, as it is all spelled out for you. The money was paid to a totally legitimate company BY THE UNIVERSITY. That means the AD and everyone else approved the check in advance!! Also, might want to check the roster of ISU for California players. Only 1 on the list and he came with Morgan from California when he coached there. He is clean here and that is why on one is talking about it.

Stallion who have a valid arguement and your opinion is great but you have to realize that nothing happend. Iowa State has one player on thier roster from LACC and he avg 8 mpg and 0.7 ppg, do you think if something was going on then they would have had more contribution then that? that player had a prior relationship with Morgan and played for him at Long Beach State. Also, NCAA could not find any alligations like I stated earlier it was Gregg Doyel free-lacing stiring the pot as he always does! As stated by Kimballhoops Ames is a very tough place to play and it is hard to get a non-conference schedule to go there!
