BANISH MAX WILLIAMS NOW!!!Moderators: PonyPride, SmooPower BANISH MAX WILLIAMS NOW!!!HE IS A VIOLATER, LIKE SHERWOOD BLOUNT, AND MUST BE BANNED AS A BOOSTER NOW! EVEN WORSE THAN BLOUNT HE TURNED THE COACH IN TO BE FIRED FOR THE VIOLATION HE CAUSED BY GIVING THE BURGER MONEY. HE IS NO FRIEND OF SMU.
ALSO BOO AND HISS MATT WILLIAMS EVERY TIME HE TOUCHES THE FLOOR, IF HE HAS THE GUTS TO STAY AT SMU. HE IS GUILTY BY BLOOD AND ASSOCIATION. THE APPLE DOES NOT FALL FAR FROM THE GRAMPA TREE.
jtstang has somewhat of a point. According to today's DMN, Max saw something he didn't like and got Copeland to do something about it. Funny how that works for some of us. Tell me, why is it that we've never seen stories like, "MM1965 saw something he didn't like and reported it to Dr. Turner, which launched an investigation..."
Lord knows this board has reported a lot of things that we see and don't like to Turner, Copeland, on down. Priceless comment from Max saying he was surprised JT got fired. Times I like these make me wish people like Max, Ford, Hunt, et al were posters on pf.com. .....orare they?
You are correct. Burgergate was a setup performed by a booster with ties to our really big "gate". He provided the money for the burgers and before the burgers had become a turd he ran screaming "Jimmy is a cheater". As for little Maxie, I wonder which player on the team was providing the info about the other violations such as detergent, too much practice and organizing notes.
Boosters like Max Williams are at every university.
Max was upset that his money wasn't going to the needs of the team, rather, they were going to the bellys of Morris and Fall. Boosters give millions every year and Max is upset that some freshmen is getting detergent for laundry. Maybe Fall needed to wash some clothes for practice? Max is filthy rich and being alum he will keep giving money at this school, especially if lil Matty is on the roster.
Didn't max make his $$$$ cleaning bathrooms? Seriously, doesnt' he / didn't he own a janitor supply outfit?? If so, I see a punch line in there somewhere...
When I was in high school, we had a player on our basketball team whose parents never washed his practice clothes. You didn't want to get within a mile of the guy. One day after practice the coach handed him a box of Oxydol and told him that he seemed to need it. The guys all laughed, the player duly shamed never showed up stinking again. That was a life lesson for a player (who had already developed the nickname "stinky" but never was smart enough to pick up on it). We don't know the facts surrounding the soap, we don't know the facts surrounding the burgers, all we know is Max gave some money to Tubbs to spend on the players and then ratted Tubbs out. I don't think Williams is stupid.
Which is why I can't understand the relative lack of outrage on this board over the fact that an SMU coach would accept money from a parent/booster "to spend on the players" in the first place. I'm sorry. You cannot describe to me a scenario where this activity could be considered anything other than idiotic. I don't care how hungry Bamba Fall is. He can go to the cafeteria. If I recall, the food there was quite good. For cafeteria food, anyway. There's no doubt the department has not handled this well. And I agree Williams should've been banned a long time ago. But can we just be honest and admit that this all started with some really questionable judgement by Tubbs? And by the way, I miss the happy-go-lucky, sardonic, wisecracking JT. The all-caps, irony-free version is not your best look.
KS, To you and others who are attacking JT for doing a wrong, any wrong, please put this in its proper context. An Alabama booster was found guilty in a court of law of providing a high school coach $150,000 to direct a single football player to the UofA and you are quibbling over Mad Max giving a few dollars to JT for food, which from all I have read is legal. If indeed there are no major violations uncovered and if that is the case it will eventually come out, then SMU ends up being the big loser in all this. As I see it, SMU, of all people, is using the NCAA rule book to punish JT....wow...you'd think post DP we of all people would understand the unfairness of that.
I feel the same way for tha relative lack of outrage over the conduct of this @sshole booster setting Tubbs up and then knocking him down. There's your irony. I'm sorry, the more I think about it the less humor I can see in it.
Appreciate the irony. AGREED on the booster. But if Tubbs doesn't take the burger money, none of this happens. That's all I'm saying.
No question about taking the money, it was a stupid theing to do, but it was to buy a kid hamburger, for godsake. But, if you punish one of them, punish both of them. That's all I'm saying. I think we are looking at the same page from two different directions.
What is the "heck" is Max Williams, with his reputation AND track record, firmly entrenched, or loosely connected to ALL the crap in the past, what in the world is this guy still doing hanging around ANY of our programs...we just don't get it, do we?? BAN WILLIAMS!!
That's a helluva point, Hix.
Someday soon Max will realize how he has disgraced his alma mater. I hope that makes him ashamed and very sad, that is worse than anything anybody can do to him with a ban or anything else. Max became too involved with his son's career. All parents and I guess grandparents can fall into that trap. Max fell in, dragged the rest of us with him and disgraced SMU for a long time.
