I wonder what the Purple Hippo is up to these days? If Dykes leaves, there will be questions as to who is to blame. Hart? Dykes? Turner? Boosters? Fans? Did he keep moving the goal posts? Did we offer more than we should have and it still wasn't enough? Did he want to move to Cowtown? Was Big XII snub a tipping point for him? Why were we snubbed by Big XII, did TCU or Baylor drop the blackball on us? Lots of blame to go around on this if it happens.

We sealed our fate decades ago with Sherwood, Gov, Pye and the after effects of ALL of that. SWC breaks apart and the little 7500 student body, 10,000 fans per game school was left flopping in the wind. Never really have moved on TOTALLY (we've had our moments) from that as schools like TCU, Baylor (former SWC doormat), Coastal Carolina, UTSA, etc have caught and passed us, as we still blabber about 1983. The harsh reality that appears to be unfolding is we end up grappling with Tulane, Tulsa, UTSA, Rice, NTSU, and others in our same spot. "If that's the case, I will NEVER buy season tickets again..!!" Ok dude, move on, but the realistic assessment now as to who we are and what we are is NOT Cincy, for example, as evidenced by their performance V us and their national elevation (btw, they SUCKED 15 years ago...), to include a solid crowd (40,000), as we flip and flop around...now our hoops program appears to be mirroring our football squad...what's the future? Where's our Fred Smith, where's our Fertitta? I thought we had all this money and influence? Why do we keep around Turner / Hart / etc around if we have all these power brokers buzzing about......do we really?? Maybe we ARE a paper tiger? Let's bring in Lashlee, go 8-4, 9-3, 7-5, 9-3, watch him bolt to Auburn, and we continue trudging on in our new AAC, CUSA, SunBelt reality. Hope we beat Sam Houston WED night...cant believe I'm even saying that, but.........

GHammond - Never Give Up! In the next 2 to 3 years we have to win the battle to P5. If we do not have a set-back we will make it. What that means is we need one more good coaching staff!

The writing was on the wall the second we missed out on the Big XII invite and Bowlsby further confirmed by basically saying there are others schools that would get an invite before us. Last week when asked by the Musers on the Ticket said that when he took the job his goal was to get us to the Big XII. While he learned the grass isn’t always greener at a P5 job like Cal who can blame him for wanting to coach big time college football in a P5 conference in his home state. Unfortunately I believe the P5 conference train has already left the station when it comes to SMU. We are just too small of a school and while us alums are actually great fans, we have never been able to win over the “t-shirt” fans. I have supported SMU through the WAC and CUSA days and I will continue no matter what conference we represent. If Sonny bolts we’re still in a better spot than we were in 2017 so let’s go out and bring back Lashlee and try to retain Samples and focus on continuing to push towards a conference championship.

When the Big XII blew up, I had a moment of hope. But reality set in and we were left outside begging, again. And now, when it is legal to pay players something, no one wants us because they know we have the capability to outspend them on players. If that is the case, get the cheapest good coach you can get, offer whatever the max stipend is these days under NCAA rules to top recruits and if there is no max, outbid the big boys, and outbid others in the transfer portal players. Suddenly, we'll be the factory the other schools want. We'll have an exciting winning team (which sells in Dallas). Then maybe our old "friends" will ask us along for the ride. I see the Big XII lasting about 5 years as currently constituted. I see the ACC lasting about 5 years as currently constituted before it blows up. Too many schools with differing goals and more love for hoops than football and schools with academic rules and schools without. So, if we position ourselves well, we have a chance, but it will still be a tier two league in some respects whether its a watered down Big XII or a watered down ACC.

Let's got get Charlie Strong. Can coach both sides of the ball and recruit. The Hook 'ems gave up on him too quickly. He'd probably pay us to get away from the Urban Meyer stink.

We do not need to get hung up on the Big XII - we are only going there if a couple of teams get pulled to other conferences which may very well happen over the next couple of years. Do not overlook the Pac 12 or the AAC! Stay positive, we are going to make it to P%!

At this point, I just want to root for something - an exciting, tangible goal. That is a conference win and I would even take a bowl win over a decent P5 (think Pitt in BBVA). If we're going to be stuck in the AAC w the newcomers, let's win it. We never won C-USA or American and our progress since the height of the JJ era has actually been a façade.

And the set-back is happening as we speak. Good coaching staff? ha, you don't find them bargain hunting at K-mart.
Somebody posted that this decision would not be Harts but the 'big supporters'. Guess what, it looks like they have bailed on us as well. Obviously shows just how committed (NOT) we are to winning and being a champion.
