[quote="SMU Football Blog"]I am not willing to concede that another assistant can't do the job. On the blog, I mentioned Tennessee assistant Scott Edgar, LSU assistant John Treloar, Florida assistant Anthony Grant, BC assistant Bill Coen.
Treloar is good but if we would look the assistant route I would have to say LSU assistant Butch Pierre, he is the ring leader on past recruiting classes but he is also is one of the highest paid assistant coaches in the land.
You sound like this happened to your child or something.
Hoop Fan, you have zero crediblity on this issue anymore. You jumped all over me for suggesting that the administration might do this two months ago, that it was detrimental to the program and personally injurious to even consider that there might be major violations and that Tubbs might potentially be fired over them, that I was somehow ruining a man's career to merely suggest what the administration was considering, then you continually trash Max and Matt Williams (not that they aren't necessarily deserving of it), but at least in the case of the kid everything you have suggested is pure speculation on your part, and now to suggest that we rehire him smacks of someone who really isn't looking at the situation objectively.
Bottom line, do we look bad right now...yes...will we look even worse if no other violations are reported....yes...are we somehow set back in DISD recruiting...probably, but we haven't been able to get players from there consistently enough to make an impact on the program, and Tubbs has had zero success with DISD recruits as a head coach....are we worse off with the Dallas African-American Community...I doubt that, because we weren't even a blip on their radar to begin with. If the coaches want to be upset fine, but I don't remember them coming to the games to encourage Tubbs, and as you and so many others have stated, they are having less and less influence over recruits anyway, if they were really concerned with Tubbs and his position at SMU they should have been doing a lot more from the day he was hired to support him. They can't force a kid to choose SMU, but they could have encouraged their friends and families to come to games and show that if SMU supports the Dallas African American community by hiring one of theirs, they will support that person, and consequently that school. Does the whole situation suck, yes but let it go, your life is getting shorter with each angry outburst. The donkey's name is Kiki.
On a side note, anybody need a patent attorney? Good, Bad...I'm the one with the gun.
I agree. I would take the South Dallas reaction more seriously if they: 1) Consistently Sent Us 2-4 players a year. Yes, we are grateful for the players we get, but we need more to make the tournament. 2) If people from South Dallas had supported Tubbs by going to games. Willis to slot receiver!
yes, SMU looks pretty stupid right now - they have trouble doing anything correctly when it comes to athletics. Community relations is awful in East Dallas, South Dallas or North Dallas.
HF, like McClown said, how many times did you see any of these coaches at our games?
I guess you have to know what they look like. Lincolns coach was there quite often. Kimballs too. I know the guy just promoted to first assitant at Skyline worked Tubbs camp the past two summers. He was shocked at the dismissal. You do realize that these guys are also in the middle of their seasons while SMU is playing? They have families too.
the post about rehiring Tubbs was just what prompted me to finally respond to you, I have been biting my tongue everytime you have posted because you are being so incredibly hypocrtical about the situation. You can't ask everybody to fawn all over Tubbs because not to do so would ruin his career when you don't do the same for Max and especially Matt Williams (who you have no proof has done anything or is really involved in this in anyway).

hypocritical? I guess if tubbs can get fired over unproven allegations or phantom allegations, youre ok with that? You dont think the person making the allegations should be questioned? Dont be absurd. Poor Max, I'm glad he's got you to stand up for him.
your point is what? That SMU is totally inept institutionally at community relations and reaching out? Thats a real great argument for withdrawing even further.
My problem is that you got upset a few months over anybody suggesting that there might be something up, because we couldn't factually prove anything, now you are are throwing arounc accusations at Matt that are just as unfounded and are going to cause him to suffer without really getting a chance to prove himself, which as i recall was one of the reasons why we couldn't talk about Tubbs job in February, because he couldn't even defend himself. That's hypocritical.
I never said I was ok with what was going on, and I did admit that we look really bad right now, and will look worse if nothing else is found. I just think that you aren't looking at the situation objectively, and you definitely are applying the same standards to everyone involved in the situation. Max Williams isn't a saint, but neither is Jimmy Tubbs. The donkey's name is Kiki.

i never said tubbs was a saint. no college coach at this level is. I sure hope the guy they bring in is as pristine as the driven snow in his background and dealings. Otherwise, SMu is hypocritcal.
I have speculated about Williams the past week. I'll admit that. Call it fighting back. Not for Tubbs. For what I think is right. I have said it before, Tubbs doesnt would barely know me if we passed on the street tomorrow. I'm independent.
