Attendance with Sonny seemed to be increasing each year (just look at the student section!), and that was with no major wins (other than a mediocre TCU), no big bowl, no bowl wins, meltdowns at the end of each season, blowout losses to schools like ECU, etc. That late 2019 ECU game crowd showed what we could be if we had a winning culture.
So why it is always a Greek tragedy when a coach decides he wants out of here?
At least most other G5 schools win their conference, or finish better than 3rd of 4th on their best season, before their coaches leave too. That’s irritating.
Agreed on how we act when a coach leaves. I get it sucks that coaches leave us every few years, but until we move up to a P5 conference, get used to it. I don’t think Sonny is the devil here. He didn’t do everything the way I would have liked, but I don’t think he royally screwed us either.
Bring on Lashlee, as I think he’ll provide the smoothest transition for our program to the next stage.
I agree that SMU's being in the G5 vs P5 is always going to make this job a stepping stone position and also agree that Lashlee might be the best choice to come in and continue building Dallas' college football program. Everyone is upset that we lost our coach who just guided this team to a 6th place .500 finish in the AAC, losing to all but one team we faced with a winning record, not to mention being humiliated in the 2 bowl games we played with Sonny at the helm. I just hope SMU moves quickly and Lashlee can come in and put together a strong staff and deliver a strong recruiting class. Until this program can win in November, actually compete for AAC Championships and win bowl games, I don't see anything changing.
