Tanner Mordecai
So is his future here or somewhere else..cough..cough..TCU? I for one would not be sad to see him go. He really [deleted] the bed against average to above average defenses. I kind of hope he transfers come Monday so we can give the reigns to Preston and not see him hit the portal

Re: Tanner Mordecai
I've been wondering this myself. He has been out of it since Pattetson was fired and Dykes was first suggested as his possible replacement. I don't think he'll go to TCU, but I don't see him staying.

Re: Tanner Mordecai
Wasn't he behind Chandler Morris on the depth chart at OU? So no reason to repeat history with the froggies.
Re: Tanner Mordecai
That really wouldn't be a loss at all. Next man up and we have two good ones.

Re: Tanner Mordecai
I thought TM got more playing time behind Rattler than Chandler did but then Caleb Williams signed.

Nope he was QB2 behind Rattler. Came here n for mop up duty IΓÇÖm a few games and of course in the Texas game when Rattler got benched a year ago. Looked like [deleted] in all his series. I just hope we can shake him.
Re: Tanner Mordecai
You know who the most popular player on any team is? The second string QB at least until he is first string.
UNC better keep that Ram away from Peruna

Re: Tanner Mordecai
For his first year here, I think he did well. Could he have gone through his reads quicker? Sure. He is a way better than average QB and we are lucky to have him. I hope he stays but if he chooses to go that is his choice to make.

+1. And, thrilled to have Preston Stone.

Re: Tanner Mordecai
If both Mordecai and Stone are at SMU next season, Rhett Lashlee is going to be a happy guy knowing he has 2 very capable QBs because for too many years SMU has lived in fear of our QB getting hurt and the season immediately crashing and burning

Re: Tanner Mordecai
I think Mordecai would have to sit out a year if he transfers a second time. He just finished his fourth year of school (including his redshirt season at OU in 2018) and has played three of his four eligible seasons.
Under normal rules, his five-year clock would run out before he could play again. But the extra year of eligibility that was granted due to COVID means he could transfer, sit out the 2022 season at his new school, and then still be eligible to play the 2023 season. (I think...)
Conversely, if he stays at SMU, he'll still be eligible to play in both the '22 and '23 seasons.

ESPN story that says Mordecai came to SMU with three years of eligibility

Couldn't he be a grad transfer and play immediately next year? assuming he has enough credits to graduate.

Good point, didn't think of that option. But wouldn't that depend on whether he's got enough school credits to earn an undergrad degree?
