The only person that seems to know what is going on is Copeland and the NCAA...

If the investigation is over, TELL us what really went on in the Basketball program.

Two things:

1. The SMU investigation is over. The NCAA investigation is not over, according to the DMN.

2. Is SMU even required to tell us? I highly doubt it. I'm sure we'll hear a statement that says something like "we found some little violations, and we've decided to go in a different direction .... and by the way, here's our new coach."

I'd be surprised if anyone ever lays it out in great detail. With that said, what's best for SMU is what's most important. I'm like many who wish Coach Tubbs nothing but the best, but the past is the past, and it's not going to change. Of much greater concern now is who the next coach will be.

So, you KNOW that's what happened, Sherlock?

No Mr. Holmes, I only know what SMU has reported to the DMN.

Wealthy alums DO have a great influence over who is hired and fired at schools. When you see a football coach from big time program X get fired for a losing season 1 year removed from a bowl game who do you think it is that put the pressure on that? Wealthy alums.

It is very possible that Max did not think Tubbs was a good coach, approached Turner and said hey can him and bring in _____ and youve got $x,xxx, xxx donation from me. How is that a disgrace? College sports is a business and its a business that demands winning. I don't know what the case was or if we will ever find out but I won't say I hate Max Williams and I certainly won't blame Matt who NOT ONE OF YOU has ANY evidence he did ANYTHING wrong. Its ridiculous to blindly rip him unless you have some sort of first hand info. I for one have not seen even a mere quote from the kid.

Tubbs is gone, SMU is going to move forward and hopefully improve. Get over it. I will just have to live forever knowing and regretting how many amazing DISD recruits this cost us and how are RPI might sink a few more spots lower in the bottom 1/3 of D1 college hoops for a couple of seasons while we rebuild. Boy being ranked 260 something next year as opposed to 240 something this year is really going to send me into a depression.

I don't think a soul on this board as said we shouldn't seek the answers, I think everyone just wants you to stop acting like someone shot your dog. You know, take a deep breath or two and just hope that more information is forthcoming.

I may be wrong, but I believe the NCAA always creates a report that is available for anyone to read...although it may not be the easiest thing to find. For instance, you can go to their search engine under Advanced Tools and type in "SMU infractions", and a list including the report on the 2000 investigation on the Malin incident will show up. So once their investigation is complete and their report is fininshed, you can find out what they found...if anything... by searching for the report.

All of you fools who think it is okay to withhold information "until the NCAA investigation is finished" need to wake up and smell the coffee. They fired the man for the stated SMU reasons of burgers and detergent. If there was more than that, say it so you don't look any more foolish than you already do. Otherwise, hold off on the firing "until the NCAA investigation is finished." It's stupid to announce one of the conclusions of the SMU investigation--that Tubbs must be fired--without disclosing the remainder of the conclusions--including why Tubbs must be fired. As of today, it's burgers and Cheer, boys, burgers and Cheer.

TO ALL COACHING CANDIDATES: come on over to SMU, where you can lose your job over burgers and Cheer!

You're leaving out the excessive practice time, the improper help for school work, etc. I'm certain there will be more.

Burgers and detergent sounds funnier, so run with it, right? Dissemble and distort. Put SMU in the least favorable light. Is that it?

Who do you think put the burgers and detergent out there? Tubbs himself, maybe? When that all came out in the DMN last week, it was attributed to "sources". Hmmmmm.

SMU has never stated that burgers and detergent were the reasons for his firing. In fact it's been just the opposite: He would NOT have been fired for that. Let's stick to facts and stop trying to destroy the program.

This may even go back to Tubbs' days at OU.

I love the excessive practice time thing. Thats always convenient. Can somebody tell me how you prove that one?

Investigator: Son, did you guys practice more than the alloted 20 hours per week per NCAA rules?

Player: We practice alot. Coach is tough. One time he even made us watch game video on the bus. Then there was that time when coach was pissed, and I swear we were running wind sprints for 3 hours. Coach is one tough sob. I mean, I dont actually know how many hours we practiced in a week or anything like that, but yea man, we practice alot.

Investigator: Thanks son, thats what Matt said too.

Conclusion: Violation for excessive practice time.

Ultimate Conclusion: Burgers, Soap, Practice time, minor help with an essay = Pattern of behavior.

Thats not a pattern in any logical persons way of thinking, thats a collection of random minor instances. I sure hope we are getting a thorough background check on the next guy we are hiring, because they better have run the cleanest, most perfect program known to man.

HF, we don't know everything yet. I'm surprised to see you so publicly jumping to conclusions. Shouldn't you give SMU the same benefit of the doubt we're giving Tubbs? What if it does turn out that Tubbs committed major violations? You're going to look a little foolish then.

If something major is proven, then I will say that Tubbs deserved to be fired, but SMU still handled it horribly. I have not said that Tubbs is an angel , nor that its impossible that something else happened, or allegedly happened. But ask around, it just doesnt seem to be there. My belief is that if Tubbs has been proven to have committed something major, some informed people outside of the executive offices would know it by now.

Whats gonna happen is this is all gonna fade into oblivion. As for looking foolish to some of you, so be it, I guess i'll just have to live with that.

since the NCAA made "institutional control" the keystone of enforcement I believe all these issues have record trails at each university. For example, Tubbs would fill out a report certifying practice time for Week X and I'm sure an accounting of all receipts and expenditures has to be documented to the university. You know it could be that SMU officials fired him for the false certifications rather than the violations themselves.

It's not just that, although I am shocked by your take on this situation since you have been to this board for a long time the voice of reasonableness and moderation. But think of the potential harm you're doing to SMU right now with your wild rantings.

If nothing else ever comes forward, I'll rant right with you. It would be an outrage of biblical proportions.
