Yes we lost. The whole town of El Paso hated us because, when it was announced we were going to the Sun Bowl, one of the SMU players was quoted as saying something like "El Paso? Where the heck is El Paso?!" (putting it nicely)

I was there as well....bbbrrrrrrr. SMU was getting totally disrespected even back then, imagine that. Ranked #6...something like 10-1 with only L to a #2 UT team..coming off of a 5 game winning streak and we get relegated to the Sun Bowl!??! I get why the boys were miffed. Nobody wanted to be there.

Got my hotel reservation, game ticket and train reservation. Leave DC 4 p.m. in at 10 p.m. on Tuesday, leave at 4 p.m. on Wednesday. Miss one day of work. Train takes you right into the City. Not bad. Uber to hotel. Now just need to get an SMU sock hat.

Man, 11am local start time.....10AM here in DFW! That is brutal. That will sure limit the Watch Party potential....guess its Bloody Marys and Mimosas.

Nothing quite like a little football at 10am on a Wednesday!
Probaly won't happen...BUT...maybe it will!!

So I just looked up the weather for the 1983 Sun Bowl it was in the mid 20s. And you call that "cold?" hahahahahaha, that's cute.

Remember the Cotton Bowl? It rained, hailed, sleeted and snowed. Dallas in January.

If I could go, I'd be flying to NYC and taking the train up and back from there...

I was there but was preferable to the bitter cold of the Sun Bowl.

That was a miserable day in the Cotton Bowl. Weather was rough - would have been more comfortable if it had been a few degrees colder - everything and everyone was wet. Little offense. But was glad to win against Marino.

The team as a whole did not care about the Sun Bowl. IIRC, many players were hung over. The appropriate response would have been to be ready and give Alabama a thumping. Missed opportunity.

Coldest game I ever recall going to was the ΓÇÿ79 Cotton Bowl with Montana’s Irish against Houston, the Chicken Soup Game. Brrrr.
