BANISH MAX WILLIAMS NOW!!!Moderators: PonyPride, SmooPower I'm doing the harm? You think after all this that I am the one doing harm? How in the world is that? Look at it this way. If there are major, proveable violations, it will have to come out eventually. Better sooner than later I'd say. If there are not, then more moderate people should be up in arms about this. Either way, I am not uncomfortable with what I have been saying about this.
Look, it would be different if the insiders were saying it looked bad and something was up. I can only go on the information that is out there and who is saying what. If there is a white elephant in the closet, lets have it. Thats all I am saying. SMU should leak it if nothing else, as long as it is proven.
Max Williams did--told the morning news he gave Tubbs money to buy lunch for players.
Yeah, but who put it out there that THAT was the primary reason, along with detergent, that he got fired? THOSE were the initial reasons that showed up in the paper from a 'source'. But there was more. And will be more, I'm sure.
And SMU will continue to look foolish for not announcing these "major violations" at the time they fired him, instead opting to allow the burger and Cheer story to perpetuate. They are doing their own harm, not Hoop Fan.
I understand that JT's attorney was a primary source for what is in the paper but there are more serious findings still to be resolved by the University. Whatever the final findings, I just hope there is not a harsh penalty against the program and that we can get on with finding a coach ASAP.
really, there were rumors? I guess we should have fired him way back in February. And certainly if those rumors have been proven, it would have happened by now and SMU can announce it to its fans.
the rumor mill is spining. On Texas Roundball.com they claim 3 Big 12 Coaches called Tuner with recruiting violations by Tubbs. Right there I doubt it-do Head Coaches spend time talking to university Presidents-I doubt it
What does 'still to be resolved' mean? Yet to be substantiated or proven? Have we self-reported these serious findings to the NCAA or not?
Exactly. And what's more, if by "more serious findings" you mean more serious than burgers and Cheer, then that's an admission he was fired based on the Burgergate findings. Which is gutless.
Is there nothing to the theory that SMU cannot release its findings until the NCAA has completed its investigation? In other words, SMU had enough info to fire Tubbs but is barred from releasing that info right now. That's what I'm counting on, substantial and major violations. Nothing short of that is a travesty.
And no, HF, you're of course not responsible for this situation! I never implied that.
barred by whom? SMU has stated that its investigation is complete. They have a duty and obligation to self report violations to the NCAA. Did they report what consititutes major violations to the NCAA or not? What are the violations? I see absolutely nothing wrong or illogical about asking these questions. I can agree that maybe it was tubbs attorney who floated burgers and Cheer. But then SMu appears to have released on the points about the practice time and tutoring. If they can release that, and the investigation is finished, a logical person has to conclude that is all. Dont say the investigation is complete if it is not.
I don't know why they don't release the info either. But then again I -- like 99% of the people on this board -- know very little about NCAA regs and procedures. Or maybe SMU is better off politically holding off until the NCAA announces. I've heard nothing to refute the theory that they have a good faith reason to hold off announcing. I'm giving them the benefit of the doubt.
Then they'd have been even more better off politically to wait to fire him until the true reasons could be revealed. This is not a difficult concept to grasp, fellas.
