Pickpockets at the Gallows: SMU’s Death Penalty and Today’s Recruiting Meat Market

Fascinating article from a Gerald S. Gurney, former SMU assistant athletic director for academics at SMU from 1984-87, where he says he had his baptism into the ethics of big-time sport, specifically big-time Texas football. His descriptions of our Parking Lot and the antics by other schools is not hard to believe.

Are you doing your part? We can still get the smart ones and win.

I think smu ranked second in swc for graduation percentage. Behind Rice.

Easy read and he hit the nail on the head. We were to poster child while the others kept on with business as usual. What he didn't say, was that after the sanctions, we instituted "reforms" that were draconian and put us in a competitive disadvantage for decades. NIL will help to level the playing field and we have resources to poach some great players. At this point, we have been shunned and snubbed by the big boys for committing the same sins they did. Its time to PonyUp.

If the alumni come to the table and support one of the legal collectives smu will get the good, smart players that understand the business opportunity in the metropolis.
