Lashlee practices what he preaches

Postby PonyPride » Wed Feb 16, 2022 10:36 pm

RBs coach Khenon Hall said that head coach Rhett Lashlee had asked about what it would take to really sell SMU to more Dallas kids. Hall said he told Lashlee that SMU needs to "invest" more in the community.

Wednesday's women's basketball game included a halftime promotion in which Taylor Toynes, co-founder and CEO of For Oak Cliff — an organization serving the South Oak Cliff community through education, advocacy, community building and the arts — and the proud owner of a Master's degree, was presented with a game ball as a salute to his efforts in the community. Presenting the ball: injured women's basketball player Amber Bacon and Lashlee.

Not only did Lashlee take the time to go make the presentation, but he walked out of a coaching clinic to do so. Part of that is evidence that he trusts his staff to keep things on track, and part of that is Lashlee doing what he said he would do. He could have skipped it or sent someone else, and nobody would have said anything — more likely, nobody would have noticed.

First-class move.
