Historic Film Footage

Postby Topper » Fri Feb 25, 2022 5:55 pm

The Texas Film Archives has a few SMU related clips. This one is the oldest film of SMU football I have ever seen. 1928 football team and band went to Army. This website also has an old home movie reel of the SMU homecoming parade in 1963. A few weeks later the cameraman went to Love Field to meet the Kennedys. There is footage of the plane including a fantastic close-up of Jackie that I have never seen.

Thanks for sharing the link. I also found this film of us playing in Austin in 1968. I was at that game and was 8 years old.

Great footage of Hixon passing to Levias. Also at the end of the first half we had the ball inside their 10. Levias threw a halfback pass that was incomplete in the end zone. I forgot that he was left handed.

Those were the best unis with big mustangs on the helmets.
BRING BACK THE GLORY DAYS OF SMU FOOTBALL!!!

For some strange reason, one of the few universities that REFUSE to use their school colors: Harvard Crimson & Yale Blue.

Unreal. My father started school as a freshman in 1955. So that’s the campus he saw. Didn’t realize that the area from Dallas Hall south to the boulevard was so vastly different. There was even a road in front of Dallas Hall?!

My understanding was that all the shrubbery in front of Dallas Hall and the "main quad" was removed after a rape that occurred in that area

I'm pretty certain that the Homecoming parade theme that year was "Gone with the Wind"
"Moral Victories Make Me Sick" - TR
