Blackistone column

Postby Hoop Fan » Tue Apr 11, 2006 10:36 pm

i buried my head in the sand last Friday and just now read the column by Blackistone. Say what you want about the guy but he nailed it. Every point he makes is valid. When will SMU quit making itself such an easy target for this guy?

Burried your head in the sand? You have been on the ultimate quest to inform everyone of how stupid SMU is for this move. I hardly think that is having your head in the sand. [deleted]

Gee, are we rehashing an old Blackistone column now? Move on, haters.
And have a little patience, children. Answers are coming.

I agree - we are rehashing but it will stop after SMU stops making dumb decision after dumb decision, and stupid PR moves- He pointed out giving Bennett extensions which I agree were totally uncalled for. I can't tell you how happy I am to see Copeland go, I don't know him personally but he has screwed up way too many times and Turner went along with them.

as far as reading the paper and media reports. I knew SMU would take a beating and deserved one. its kind of like you can say harsh things about your kid sometimes, but nobody else better. thats how I have felt about smu for the past week.

hello, its 4 days old and its the most recent column and impression about SMU out there. You can keep wishing this away as yesterdays news, but this will haunt us for a long time.

Well, right now the coach is fired and the answers are burgers and Cheer. And SMU has done nothing to the booster who set all of it up and knocked down the coach. All new coaching candidates must be in love with the prospect of that kind of job security. Hell Max Williams will probably chair the welcoming committee.

Isn't this absurd? This is exactly what is shaping up here.

There is no such thing as coaching security in college sports. The only guys with coaching security are ones with a proven track record of winning and even then they are rarely safe.

At the same time there is not much loyalty in college sports either. Every coach is ready to jump on the next big job that comes their way. It is kind of funny how there is not much of a commitment on either side of the coaching marriage.

As an aside, I believe the current record for the shortest tenure of a Division I basketball coach is eight days.
