The old “Beating a team 3x in one Season” MythA quick search, and I am sure there are many, many more, say that beating a team three times in one season is mathematically not that hard. Since 1970, NFL teams have won 65% of those “dreadful” third matchups. BEAT Tulsa!
Re: The old “Beating a team 3x in one Season” MythAlso, Tulsa is down this year, although they have gotten a bit better here the last couple of weeks and have got a couple of lucky breaks go their way at the end of games.
I would say its hard to beat a GOOD team 3 times in one season. It is not hard to beat a NOT GOOD team 3 times, and the latter describes Tulsa. This is a game that we should win easily, we just have to go out and take care of business. Go Ponies! Probaly won't happen...BUT...maybe it will!!
Re: The old “Beating a team 3x in one Season” MythWe are SMU, nothing is ever easy. Expect SMU to squeak by with a 5 point win in the last minute.
Re: The old “Beating a team 3x in one Season” MythHow many of those times when a team beat another three times were a prohibitive heavyweight beating up on a bottomfeeder? That's not the case here. It is not impossible, but it's hard. When teams are close in talent, as SMU and Tulsa are, all it takes is for one team to have a cold shooting stretch, fall behind and then run out of time while playing catch-up. It's not impossible, but when talent is similar, it is difficult. No gimmes for a team like ours.
But I'm expecting a win tonight!
Re: The old “Beating a team 3x in one Season” MythHardly a myth but the key is whether the two teams are competitive.
"But when the better team won both previous matchups, the third was a true toss-up — the better teams won only about 49.3 percent of the time." https://fivethirtyeight.com/features/it ... asketball/
Re: The old “Beating a team 3x in one Season” MythTime to put on our big boy pants and win these games. We need to beat Tulsa tonight. Period.
UNC better keep that Ram away from Peruna
Re: The old “Beating a team 3x in one Season” MythBeating Tulsa three times is not a good bet - unless of course you’ve already won two and are the better team. Similarly, getting heads three times in a row is not likely (1 in 8 chance). But if you’ve already gotten heads twice, the chance you’ll hit three in a row is 50/50.
Re: The old “Beating a team 3x in one Season” MythThis is not a 50-50 proposition. Tulsa is a terrible team and we are a team on the cusp of the NCAA tournament. If we lose tonight, I'll be pissed and so should the entire fanbase.

Houston just beat Cincinnati for the third time this season. “Everything that irritates us about others can lead us to an understanding of ourselves.”

Re: The old “Beating a team 3x in one Season” Myth
A clearly superior team, as we should be vs Tulsa. Memphis is another story all together
Re: The old “Beating a team 3x in one Season” MythNeedless to say, I am very happy today!
Re: The old “Beating a team 3x in one Season” Myth
We won big time. Pressure is on Memphis now. I will be rooting for UCF. Gonna stick around here at Dickies and cheer on the Knights. spending the night in Ft Worth for the first time ever, where is the SMU brunch in cowtown tomorrow? Probaly won't happen...BUT...maybe it will!!
Re: The old “Beating a team 3x in one Season” MythLet's bust the myth again tomorrow.
Re: The old “Beating a team 3x in one Season” MythI'm pulling for Memphis, hoping they become a top 30 NET team, which would give us an additional quad 1 win and if we beat them tomorrow another one. We could potentially be 4-1 in quad 1 if we beat them tomorrow.
Re: The old “Beating a team 3x in one Season” MythBased on Memphis' hot start vs UCF it looks like SMU vs Memphis for a 3rd time and this might be SMU's final chance to earn an at-large bid and a shot at the AAC's auto bid
