They played hard. Refused to let Memphis push them around. It just didn't work out in the end. Memphis was successful in taking Davis out of his game. That was the difference.
A long tradition of existence.

SMU can’t leave things at the hands of the selection committee to get in, has it ever worked out for us? We needed to take care of business and beat Memphis and we didn’t do it. I personally think Jank leaves a lot to be desired when it comes to coaching in game. You can’t be up by 4 or 5 points with 5 minutes to play and then lose.

You also can’t lose to LMU and expect that to not come back to bite you in the [deleted]. If SMU were Texas or Michigan, we’d most likely be in. We have to realize we have to do more to ensure we can get in. Either that or win the damn American tournament for once.

The NCAA is a cartel to benefit select programs. It’s a sham.

ponyboy wrote:It was interesting last night how condescending the announcers were towards SMU. They all but said, Memphis is a legit Final Four contender and [who is it they are playing tonight?] is lucky to be on the same court. By the end of the game, they were openly criticizing the officiating and very pro SMU. I think we impressed anyone who watched the game, since it was obvious we were playing two opponents.

Most people in the college basketball world were aware that Memphis had the number one recruiting class and was coming off the NIT Championship so there were high expectations for that team from the get go. once they beat Houston twice, they cemented their spot but you could argue getting slotted into that 8/9 game really stinks. They did the same to TCU. Really tough 1st game and if you survive that game you get a # 1 seed. Much better off in a 7/10 or 6/11 game in this tournament if you want to advance to the 2nd weekend.
