Once again we will see if the Big 12 is overrated as a conference. Does anyone believe that we wouldn't have made the tournament if we were in the Big 12? It looks like if a team knocks off Baylor or Kansas and otherwise goes .500 against the top ranked teams an NCAA invite is guaranteed. I have watched Texas several times this year and I say that we would beat them 2 out of 3. Of course we did the same to Memphis and look where it got us. I am feeling gloomy about the AAC holding us back in all sports.

Its going to get worse. Once we lose Cincy, UH and UCF, and backfill with Rice, UNT, UAB and UNCC, I see very little respect down the road. We will be a 1 bid conference, unless we all schedule tough out of conference games which means road games for the most part. No good team is going to want to come to Moody.
UNC better keep that Ram away from Peruna

Truth. Memphis might be the only team in the new AAC that could ever hope to see an at large bid. The conference will need to become road warriors in hopes of scoring some early season upsets.

How in the Hades did TCU get in? We were ranked one slot above them in NET. Inexplicably, we swapped places with them on Selection Sunday, they get in, we get left out, and they end up a 9 seed?

Big XII and beating both Kansas and Texas Tech got them in. We'll see how the Big XII fares in the tournament to see whether it is the same old P5 bias or whether those wins for TCU were actually more impressive than our wins vs Memphis and Houston

I wondered that, too. While no fan of TCU, I went back and looked at their schedule. They had quality wins against the likes of #12 Texas Tech, #3 Kansas, and LSU when they were ranked, as well as Georgetown, Texas A&M, Oklahoma, and Oklahoma State.

Georgetown didn't win a game in the Big East (0-19) so that's hardly a quality win (Georgetown's NET was 193 despite the advantage of Big East schedule). Even TCU's getting blown out on their home court by Santa Clara didn't hurt them as bad as our neutral court loss to LMU (NETs 67 vs 208). Again, we'll have to see who can prove themselves in tournament play. TCU and Memphis both got the dreaded 8 vs 9 game for an opportunity to get a # 1 seed if they advance.

You want to argue about beating a Big East team on the road? You're missing the point. TCU going to the dance should not be a shock to any of us.

How? Pretty easy. The NCAA tournament selection committee includes Iowa State AD Jamie Pollard. Like the other P6 (I'm annoyed by it but there's no point denying that the Big East is "P6" in MBB) men's basketball conferences, the Big XII is *always* on the committee. The American continues to have had zero representation since SMU has been in the American.

No "advocate" for the the AAC is significant. Would have been nice to have someone to educate the committee and make the argument that SMU had a horrible start as this team, with so many new faces was coming together but just look at how they finished splitting with Houston, winning 2 of 3 vs Memphis and avenging the Cincinnati loss

Wow, the old SWC would have become a top MBB league if it had stayed together according to the current selection committee. Arkansas, UT, Baylor, Tech, TCU, Houston all make the NCAA whild SMU and A&M go to the NIT.

And they once said Texas was just a football state and basketball would never make it here!

Then why in the Hades were we (and A&M) ranked immediately next to them in NET? That doesn’t hold water.

He needs a little whine with that cheese. A$M didn't exactly tear it up in the non-conference losing to TCU and Wisconsin. They did play pretty well in tournaments beating Notre Dame (a marginal invitee) and Auburn when they were ranked # 1 but they were every bit as much a bubble team as SMU as evidenced by their NIT seeding.
