The SMU center put up a post on Twitter declaring that he is done with basketball.
Jahmar young jr. @Jahmar_young As shocking as it may seems leaving 2 years of eligibility on the floor, all things must come to a end. Time for a new chapter of my life…… Thank you basketball. #21out
In a follow-up post, he also said the choice to walk away was his.

Good luck with whatever you choose to pursue, Jahmar. Meanwhile, Coach Lanier needs to find another big man for next year's team.

I wish him well, too bad though,
I thought he really showed some signs of promise last year and thought he should have gotten a lot more minutes than he did, he looked pretty good when he was out there.
He was long and athletic and could have spent the offseason living in the weight room and bulking up.
Good luck to him in his future endeavors.
Probaly won't happen...BUT...maybe it will!!

If the passion is gone, it's best to move on. He will know pretty soon if he misses the game and like he says, still has eligibility remaining and could probably find scholarship opportunities

Our better yet, 3 or 4. Thanks to Young, who showed up as a walk-on, busted his tail and improved a lot. Best of luck going forward, Jahmar.

Modern day Kelan Luker, who is now Stephenville QB coach.
Good luck Jahmar! Maybe we'll see him on the coaching bench at DeSoto in a few years.

Luker has an accounting degree, doesn’t he? And he chose to leave football to be in a band. I’m surprised he’s just a high school QB coach.
Anyway, thank you Jahmar. God speed on your new path

Paige got an accounting degree and a good job. I never heard about Luker’s education so not sure about that.
