What do ya'll think of the possibilty of Nolan Richardson as SMU's new head coach? I think he would be a GREAT hire. Just not sure if we are planning to pony up the money it would take to get a guy like him to SMU. Maybe this is where Max can make up some points with those of you that want him to burn in hell etc etc.
On another note: of the names I have seen thrown around in the media I think both Rob Evans or Matt Doherty would be excellent choices. Who do ya'll want?

he wouldnt come here and SMU wouldnt hire him so forget it. Remember the fire the coach comments from 1994 when he thought SMU was trying to out Shumate? Richardson would set the SMU community on its ear, no way that would ever work.

right - the smu community could not handle richardson; plus smu is not serious about basketball, so why would it pony up that kind of money to get a real coach like nolan?

Nolan is a number one Jerk! He got fired at Arkansas with good reason. He is trouble all the way..an egotistical racist of the first order.

You don't know the first thing about Nolan. He's a winner, and he's helped a lot of unfortunate people along the way. I'm not sure why someone is bringing his name up here in this forum anyway. There is no way SMU gets him because it is not serious about basketball

I am pretty sure for a while his graduation rate at Arkansas was 0%. So I don't see him even sniffing this job, assuming he wanted to anyways.
I miss Troy Matthews.

I really think he could be interested just because of Dallas and exposure for his agenda, however, he is still getting big checks from Arkansas and until they run out (1 or 2 years) he will enjoy time on his ranch.
I think he would bring a very successful era to SMU BB and then in about 5 years we would be in the same position that Arkansas is in today with law suits and press wars, and he would be getting big checks from us. And as opposed to MFFLO2, I do think that one of his kids graduated, but I could ber wrong.

You are correct, Nolan did help a lot of people along the way, Rob Evans being one of them. However, I think Nolan was one of those people that had so many tough experiences growing up, that he could never let them go. I think he would take one look at the demographics at SMU and decide it was a racist school.

I think Nolan would be interested for a few reasons.
1. His love of the game. Sure the money is great and there are other factors but anyone who has been around the game so long truly loves it and probably misses it once he is removed from it.
2. He knows being in Dallas would be a recruiting gold mine.
3. Ego. Anyone who has been as succesfull as Nolan has in his career posses a very strong ego and Richardson is no exception. He would love the opportunity to come into Dallas a turn around a program that others couldn't.
Now I have no idea whether SMU would be willing to pay up, would be willing to take a chance on some his previous bad PR etc etc. but I do think he would have interest.
With that said, if we end up hiring Evans and bringing his staff along with him, you will not find a happier ponyfan than this guy right here.
