When this was brought up two years ago, I was against it. The fact is, technically, this is Blackmon's first year as an assistant coach with the Mavericks. In previous years, he was a "player development coach," part of the Cuban "Let's have 20 assistant coaches" policy. In year's past, he wasn't an assistant coach that was allowed to coach during the games, just during practice.
I don't think he would be "Clyde Drexler" disaster because he knows what coaching is about. I just don't think he is the right guy.
I agree with Blogger, Drexler is not a perfect comparison but it comes to mind. Its not easy to step into the college environment and be successful. Alot more goes into than just knowing the game and having been a good pro player in the area. Would Blackman really want to scour the AAU circuit all summer looking for B level talent that could become A level? How long would that last?
OK, I'm glad you brought that up. When I first heard Ro's name brought up, I thought about Drexler, and at first glance, they seem similar: great players, limited coaching experience, bright, thoughtful, highly respected .... and Drexler laid an egg (as a coach) at UH. However, there's no reason to assume Ro would do the same thing here.
Honestly, I don't know enough about him to have an opinion yet (although I bet our shooting would improve). And who says he'd have to scour the AAU circuit for players? That's what assistant coaches are for! They can bring back tapes, etc.
well, that speaks highly of him. Means he hasnt had any legal trouble at least. Ro Blackman by all accounts is a first class guy. nobody can predict how he would translate to college coaching.
Maybe when you told him you had passed the bar he could not understand why you were still there. ![]()
...Ro is about as intelligent a guy as there as when it comes to basketball X's and O's, he'd be unproven in the recruiting department...as obviously all new college coaches would be, but as far as X's and O's (which I never thought Tubbs fully grasped), he'll be just fine
I dunno, he snuck into Dedman once while I was working there, he probably won't last the first month before he gets busted for breaking the rules.
The donkey's name is Kiki.
On a side note, anybody need a patent attorney? Good, Bad...I'm the one with the gun.
