Normally do the official prediction thread on Monday, but since North Texas State has already played a game, let's do this a day early. Watching their game last night, they looked better than last year, taking a seven win UTEP team to the woodshed, in front of a big home crowd. They were also missing a couple of starting receivers and one of their top defenders..... but guess what, all are expected back for the SMU game. Could be a tough one in Denton. You know the old saying, teams improve the most, from week one to week two.

Lots of complaining on the boards by people who thought a first time HC with all new offense and defense and a ton of new faces was going to come out rolling in game one on the road.

PNW- understand the issues. However if we crap the bed and look like a weak sister then I think our chances of moving up are seriously diminished. I expect there will be a lot of important eyes watching how we do etc.

Plus we have a very experienced QB and a WR corps that should be outstanding.

I can't predict the numbers but I think SMU wins by at least 10. This is not a normal coaching change where the outgoing coaching staff struggled for 2-3 seasons and left the cupboard bare. This is not a new head coach who is unfamiliar with the school and the team; hell, he was only gone for 23 months. Yes, he's breaking in a lot of new players but that's nothing new in the free-transfer era. Yes, the College/University of North Texas looked fine last week, against a UTEP team that was 7-6 last year and beat precisely zero teams with winning records.

But I hope the team is not nearly so confident of a good outcome.

This won't be easy. The thing that scares me the most is the fact that they already have played and won a game. We have loads more talent, and there are key experienced pieces coming back that won't be starting for the first time, but it will still take a quarter to wake up, if not a half.

We could be down at the half, but we will win, and not in a blowout fasion.
