It also says Orsini talked to Franschilla and as we already know Evans. So, those three at least appear to be the top choices, unless of course there is a surprise choice and they are the due diligence.

It also says Tubbs was fired for alleged NCAA and SMU rules violations. First time I saw SMU rules violations. Is this another area where SMU is imposing rules above and beyond what the NCAA requires? Sounds reminescent of the Pye Model (TM, Stallion, Inc.).

No, that is Fratello, who is the coach of the Memphis Grizzlies.

Where did Fran coach at before he went to New Mexico? Doesn't he live over in the Park Cities?

St. Johns. Before that, Manhattan.

Let us all pray on Good Friday that he was a courtesy interview. I know Stallion will be all over him, as he has the same kind of Dallas connections as Charlie Waters.

I agree w/ all the above on Fraschilla. Fraschilla took over UNM after Bliss left for Baylor. For 20+ years, UNM was in the nation's top 10 in attendance. They haven't been since. Fraschilla was known for bringing in 'problem cases' at UNM, who would be there awhile, then get dismissed from the team. It's not often when you see a coach resign from a school (see our own JT), even if there are problems...that's what happened to Fran @ UNM.

I wonder what his recruiting ties are? Anyone know if he recruited any of the studs at Texas?

The suggestion from his bio is he is a good recruiter. Can't offer any better information than that.
He has some amount of Texas ties: assistant at Baylor; assistant at St. Edwards (where he played and graduated) in Austin, coached Angleton and Sommerville high schools. And of course, assistant at UT-Austin.

i sure as hell hope we did not out Jimmy Tubbs for a Fran Frashilla. Nice guy, and all that, but just because he lives here and might want the job does not make him a good candidate at this time. He knows people here, but I wouldnt say he has any recruiting ties in the area. Please SMU, do not botch this further.

Let's not bash Fraschilla too much in this public forum, since he occassionally buys a ticket and actually comes to both basketball and football games, which is a lot more support for SMU than most people give.
