Anyone with half a brain knows Tubbs got fired for more then burgers and tide. There are lots of rumors, and SMU is not going to go public with them because it would only get us canned by the NCAA. Have a brain people - especially you jt . this will end up the best thing - avoiding a big NCAA sanction and upgrading our coach - win win for SMU.

You have a brain--or better yet SMU should--you don't fire a guy for bugers and Cheer and then start rumors there was more than that to it, and then pay him his contract money anyway.

If there were major violations we would have reported those to the NCAA because we definitely learned our lesson about keeping quiet about violations. That is University policy from the Board of Trustees, and there are no exceptions to that policy. So, if we turned ourselves in already, we're going to get whatever punishment we deserve for those violations. It seems to me that if part of our self-punishment was to fire the coach that would have been part of the press release so that we look like it was something we really didn't want to do, but did it in order to avoid greater penalties (the Fresno State model). If on the other hand, we had a coaching candidate in the wings who was a knock everybody's socks off candidate, but who wouldn't interview until there was an opening, then we should have just said, you know we decided it just wasn't working out with Jimmy and we want to go a different direction at this point. The problem as I see it, is that if that guy was Evans, he is not the reincarnation of John Wooden. A good coach and and probably an upgrade over Tubbs, but is he worth the price we're going to have to pay in paying off Tubbs, paying a bonus to this guy, all the negative press we've received and alienating his current roster.

You are the one in need of a brain or "half a brain". The public is the only entity that does'nt have all of the information. Unless you have forgotten, Gramps started an NCAA investigation here and SMU has turned all of their findings over to them. Your assertion that SMU is hiding information from the public to avoid punishment from the NCAA leaves you with 0 brain power.

Consider that the violations have been identified. The issue to then address is institutional control and response. As this will impact the program moving forward, the new A.D. should be given a voice. The finalists for the coaching position will have the information regarding violations and institutional response. I suspect that it will be disclosed to us shortly after.

Correct Cardinal - there may be people involved that are still students, or prospective students cuurently going through the recruiting process. There is still an investigation underway. They had enough to take action so they took it. Its just not that hard to get.

first of all, do you know that there is something involving prospective athletes found by smu but not publicized or are you merely speculating? Regardless, SMU could divulge the nature of the violation (if it exists at all) without naming names. Because if smu found it, they had to self report to the ncaa.
