2022-23 Men's Basketball Schedule Announced

DALLAS (SMU) – SMU's 2022-23 men's basketball slate was finalized on Wednesday when the American Athletic Conference announced its 18-game league schedule. The Mustangs will play home and away against Cincinnati, ECU, Houston, Memphis, USF, Tulane, Tulsa and Wichita State. SMU will have just a single match-up with Temple at home and UCF on the road.

The conference slate opens at Moody Coliseum against Tulsa on New Year's Day and finishes at Cincinnati on March 5. The Mustangs finish with three of the last five at home: Houston (Feb. 16), ECU (Feb. 19) and Memphis (March 2). Ten of SMU's conference match-ups will be featured on ESPN2 or ESPNU. The American Men's Basketball Championship is March 9-12 (Thursday-Sunday) at Dickies Arena in Fort Worth.

The non-conference is highlighted by match-ups with Dayton, Arizona State, New Mexico, Texas A&M and TCU plus the Hawaiian Airlines Diamond Head Classic. The first season under Head Coach Rob Lanier opens at Moody Coliseum on Monday, Nov. 7.

SMU is coming off of a 24-9 season, that included a second-place finish in the American Athletic Conference and a trip to the second round of the NIT. The Mustangs were 16-0 at Moody Coliseum during the regular season.

We've got Texas A$M, TCU & Houston (twice) and I see that the CBS Top 25 pre-season also includes Texas and Baylor. I feel really left out and look forward to the day we can compete with those schools again. At least we get an opportunity against 3 of the 5

I see Dayton cracked the pre-season AP Top 25 so hopefully that game will be televised to more than the ESPN+ audience

For Dickies Arena game, the UH vs. Ok State game was lightly attended and it was easy to move around among the baseline. The upper deck was blocked off and so was most of the behind the basket seats. Hopefully, the SMU vs. TCU game gets more attendance. It's a great team run-through for the AAC Tourney. UH plays St. Mary's on Dec. 3, the Saturday before the TCU/SMU tilt.

Excited to see how Coach Lanier works out his go to players. These are all solid OOC games:
