Sorry for the delay in posting about the TT spring game. We went...for about 30 minutes. Wind was blowing in excess of 50 mph and there was a dust storm, too. (hey...it's Lubbock!)...from what little I observed, there was nothing too impressive about the Red Raiders offense. Same ol', same ol'. Throw the ball, throw the ball, throw the ball. However, the receivers were dropping 'em pretty often. Especially on long yardage. A few throws out into the flats that were completed for short yardage. The defense was MUCH better than the offense, imo. I have to get into a meeting. If anyone's interested, I'll post more later today.

That's actually a bit unnerving if the defense is better than the offense, because we all know Leach will have the offense cranked up by the season .... when, I believe, the wind/dust storms aren't the problem they are in the spring. We'll go out there, it will be 100 million degrees out there, and Tech will throw. And throw. And throw. That might be "all they do," but as I recall, they do it pretty well. By all means, MM65, post whatever you remember! Thanks

First game of the year is always the best time to play Tech, and they are showing that the QB can get pressured.

No offense, but Tech isn't the team to break in new cornerbacks against in most years, and this year's Raider squad has three NFL quality wideouts with big bodies (Filani, Hicks and Johnson) that pose matchup problems. As usual, the smaller Pony D-line will face an uphill battle in the trenches.

Now, for the heat in West Texas- it won't be a factor. Jones Stadium will be in the shade by the late 2nd quarter, there will be a breeze to wind of some sort and the humidity (lack of) will make it a good deal easier on the Stangs. West Texans have a harder time coming to Dallas and Houston than the other way around.

Harrell will be good and is the front runner, but the QB derby is still 'officially open' with Chris Todd (who went 15-23) as the other QB.

Regarding the Pony d-line. If we're all the screaming "Justin's being held! That's a hold! Dammit! Throw the flag!," we're screwed.

Again, though, the main answer to TTech's passing attack:
DeMyron.
DeMyron.
DeMyron.
Johnnie F.
Johnnie F.
DeMyron.
DeMyron.
...and where'd that Mapps kid come from!!

Harrell, imo, didn't look 'solid'. Ran around in the backfield alot looking for a receiver downfield or out in the flats. OL not really giving him the protection he needed. There are a couple of bruisers on the OL, though. Watch Cody Baker, 6-5, 287, Sophomore from Rowlett and Ross Lewis, 6-2, 293, Senior from DeSoto.

Other 'standouts' from their spring game were WR Joel Filani, 6-3, 214 Senior from Paradise Valley, AZ & RB Shannon Woods, 5-11, 197 sophomore from North McKinney & RB Kobey Lewis, 5-6, 167 Freshman (RS) from Abilene.
