IMO, for what is worth and it just my opinion. There were a host of factors. No one thing, whether it be infractions, record, demanding an extension, the perceived quility of next year's squad or grades was the sole reason. Put them all together and the decision was justifiable, in the mind of Turner, Orsini and Copeland.
Again, just my opinion.

As for a public relations nightmare, from the day he was hired, I believed that whenever (if) SMU chose to let Tubbs go, it would end badly, even if he were given ten years and never produced anything. The DISD HS coaches were always going to be PO'd. Is this worse? Yes, but not appreciably so, IMO.
c'mon, I know you believe that, but that is really a copout. Pretty unfair too. SMU should have never hired tubbs if that was part of the thinking for one second.

Let's assume your opinion turned out to be factually correct. How would it justify withholding the whole truth in favor of burgers and Cheer at the time of his firing?

the copout is the notion that it doesnt really matter if we fire a coach after two years, DISD is going to be pissed whenever we fire him. That goes for anybody using that logic, you or the powers that be at SMU. First of all firing is not a foregone conclusion. People retire, people move on to other places etc. Your whole position assumes that it is valid to judge somebody and make a conclusion after two years on the job after inheriting a mess to begin with.

You don't even know what the violations are, sunshiner.
Sunshiner? Only on this board can a person speculate that we will receive self-imposed sanctions and then be considered too positive!! After Tubbs' dismissal, I would bet there will be self-imposed sanctions.
Do you think we will lose scholarships?

Within 2 years on the job our new coach will have us playing above .500 basketball. In fact if we get Doh I am certain we will be playing above .500 in his first season even after the loss of Bhop. That will show what we call progress. Progress means he won't get fired after 2 years. Tubbs couldn't do that, so he got canned.

oh, so Tubb's record in his first year met your expectations, it was only the second year that got him canned with you? it gets better all the time with you.

Let's see, Tubbs inherited a team that finished 12-18 and brought them back to .500 his first season. Are you saying all his successor needs to do is get the team over .500 within TWO YEARS to be called a success?
Le'ts here from some more of you Tubbs haters on what your expectations are for the new basketball coach at SMU. NIT? C-USA Championship game? One over .500?
How many top 60 players need to turn down offers from winning basketball teams and choose SMU instead?

DickerJames,
Logic and facts don't seem to work with Icon and Clown. It has been very obvious since they registered several months ago that they have a personal agenda against Coach Tubbs.

No, that does'nt matter. According to the Tubbs haters, anybody with a pulse could have done a better job, and everyone mentioned for the job so far will take us to greatness.
