I was at SMU from 1967 - 1971. I too remember going to some fun swim meets at Perkins.
One in particular; vs Tennessee. They had Dave Edgar [?]; we had Jerry Heidenrich. I remember Edgar being well touted, but Heidenrich was better...

Thanks for sharing this antecdote.
Dave and I trained in the summer with the same coach in Fort Lauderdale, who went on to become the US Olympic Coach for Women in '76. To me, Dave was a star; but Jerry Heidenrich was a superstar, who was America's and our best swimmer behind Mark Spitz in "72 Munich Olympics.
